ScreenToGif would be even better, if it was not for its unwieldy Net Framework 4.6.1 addiction
(2.5 GB of available hard disk space required).

For me, I'll stick with leaner, self-contained GifCam instead, thank you.

The editor for this program just gets better and better. I've really enjoyed seeing it's progress over time.

portablefree on 2022-07-06 16:54

Some interesting news:
- Updated to 2.37 2022, May, 1st
- Repackaged since 2.36 (see https://github.com/NickeManarin/ScreenToGif/releases)
"New installer and portable versions with the full package (no .NET 6 download required) are available alongside with the lighter versions, which still require the installation of .NET 6 desktop runtime."

So, now we can have either:
- a self contained "ScreenToGif.2.37.Portable.x64.zip" at 67.7 MB
- or a minimal "ScreenToGif.2.37.Light.Portable.x64.zip" at 6.96 MB... but we need .NET 6 installed on the PC :)

I will try it now, for sure :)

@loin2kolpotoru: Any reference for this? The official website and a couple of places I search seems to indicate that it still supports WinXP.

loin2kolpotoru on 2023-07-09 14:58

I have personally tried to install latest version of PotPlayer on xp but it displayed error message PotPlayer only supports vista or later os.

Plus here we can see what is the last xp supported version -

Per the last comment (or rather comments), it's true VLC is infamous for never including the 64 bit in the regular download page.
I've therefore edited the entry to link to an official archive (more techy page) that always contains both the latest 64 and 32 bit versions (in both 7Z and regular ZIP).

PAFuser on 2022-03-07 20:48

Also available from PortableApps.com (32 bit). (64 bit can replace PortableApps 32 bit files.)

MoisheP on 2023-10-13 14:18

It might be easier for some to download the Windows installer, e.g., vlc-3.0.19-win64.exe directly from videolan.org and unpack using 7-Zip to the VLC folder.

Updated to version 7.0 (2022-06-02, 2022, June, 2nd)

- Option for saving last position: If this option is not checked, the gifcam app will open in the center of the desktop.
- Auto-space between frames and delay labels regardless of system font size.
- Fixed Windows XP right click menu.
- Some other bug fixes.

__philippe on 2022-07-07 10:04

Belatedly discovered a Gifcam quirk in the Win XP version...:-(
(XP buttons regrettably lack the side arrow ▼ included in Win7 version):

• Right-clicking "Rec" button opens a keyboard shortcuts list
• Right-clicking "Save" button opens an options + "about" list

Only notice webfork's comment today. Used Universal Extractor 2 https://www.portablefreeware.com/index.php?id=2764 to extract to a new folder and ran vv.exe. Still unable to get portable version to run, even as administrator.

Andrew Lee on 2021-04-01 01:35

The portable ZIP did not work, but the extracted installer files worked fine for me without running as admin.
