This is by FAR the ABSOLUTE BEST recovery software I've ever used. I do wish that it had a window interface... but it just recovered files that would've taken me 2 hours to recreate. Fantastic. (By the way... I tried 3 other favorites including RECUVA before using this. None of them worked. This did. I think RECUVA probably would've worked with a deep scan, but I don't have the 2 hours to sit and wait for that hope!)

The functionality of this Photorec *free* program is great. The fact that it is free is even better. I've tried it, I like it, i will use it again and I WILL DONATE (honest guv). Fair is fair. Good Karma.

This is my favorite file manager, very powerful but slow when a lot of small files are to copied/moved.
Also it creates its configuration files in user folders.

Tixati v2.11 Updated

Checker on 18 Apr 2015
  • 19MB (uncompressed)
  • Released on 17 Apr 2015
  • Suggested by Ruby

Tixati is a lightweight, easy-to-use file sharing program utilizing the distributed peer-to-peer BitTorrent protocol. The program includes a clean, simple interface with the notable ability to prioritize files within a downloading torrent so you can get the first song or video downloaded and previewed quickly. Also supports customized download folders by file type, bandwidth throttling, transfer visualizations, encryption, prioritization, RSS support, IP filtering, and DHT and magnet links.

A 64-bit version is available (within the folder).

System Requirements: WinXP / Vista / Win7 / Win8
Writes settings to: Application folder
Stealth: ? Yes
License: Freeware
How to extract: Download the portable ZIP package and extract to a folder of your choice. Launch tixati_Windows32bit.exe (for 32-bit OS) or tixati_Windows64bit.exe (for 64-bit OS).

Optionally: Delete tixati_Linux32bit, tixati_Linux64bit and, depending on your OS, the other tixati_Widows..bit.exe to save space.
Similar/alternative apps: BitComet, qBittorent, uTorrent, Halite
What's new?
  • This new version features a complete makeover of the channels system and it's UI. There is now a common Share view that has a default profile for all channels. There is also a new search view that works on all channels, and a contacts list for easy access to friends. Streaming options have been improved, and the channels themselves have been carefully refined and tested for smoother operation.
  • There have also been several UI refinements made, including several new top toolbar options in the main view. Right-click the toolbar and look in the Layout submenu to select the different styles.
  • We have also made several refinements to the bandwidth throttling routines, so that payload packets to a particular endpoint are larger and more sparsely sent out on the wire. This will reduce protocol overhead and improve download and upload performance on high bandwidth connections, and will slightly reduce CPU loading.
  • The DHT has also had some minor work done to the internal logic. This was mostly to further increase the speed of DHT lookups, and mitigate the impact of certain other clients that are abusing the DHT network with excessive requests.
  • The Linux version is now built on an updated toolchain to utilize the newest language features and several standard library improvements. Some users may notice better CPU/memory performance on 64-bit Linux machines.
  • The next release is coming soon and will contain many new improvements to the transfer queuing system, as well as webseeding support.

QuickWayToFolders v1.3.3 Updated

Checker on 18 Apr 2015
  • 2MB (uncompressed)
  • Released on 16 Apr 2015
  • Suggested by crownixx

QuickWayToFolders provides quick and easy access to a folder on your computer via a taskbar icon. The program window disappears when you click outside the window. Display modes include:

  • Desktop: Act like a mini-desktop, with small icons
  • Small Browser: very similar to Windows explorer in "details" view
  • Menu: Display folder content in a menu
  • Multiple Folders Menu: Display multiple folders content in a single menu (note that you must manually add them or nothing will appear when you click the icon)
In the "Menu" and "Multiple Folders Menu" settings, the program can act like a Program Launcher. Multiple instances of the program can be run with customizable icons and each entry is added to the taskbar.

To use the program as a root folder of a portable folder choose Options - Local path, then use a forward slash: "\". To set an image as a background place it in the application folder and set path as "image name.jpg" etc.

System Requirements: WinXP / Vista / Win7 / Win8
Writes settings to: Application folder
Unicode support: No
Path portability: Requires manual entry of relative path (eg. ..\..\personal\work.doc)
License: GPLv2
How to extract:
  1. Download the ZIP package and extract to a folder of your choice
  2. Launch QuickWayToFolders.exe
  3. Right-click the taskbar icon, select Options and uncheck "Launch at Windows Startup"

I extracted the zip to a folder on my thumbdrive and attempted to launch QuickWayToFolders.exe (thumbdrive attached to my netbook - WinXP SP3). I got "The procedure entry point ShutdownBlockReasonDestroy could not be located in the dynamic link library USER32.dll."
This looks like it might be a great addition to my portables -- any help would be appreciated!

A great yet simple way to achieve native multi-desktops in Windows 7 x64 (I mean desktops as physical locations, bearing in mind the default one is usually located at %USERPROFILE%\Desktop):

1) Define any number of folders in QuickWayToFolders (QW2F) with "Shortcut Type" as "Local Path" (e.g.: Desk2, Desk3, ...);

2) Customize them through QW2F's "Options | Browsing options", taking care to check "Hide toolbar For Home Folder" and "Save Icons Positions For Home Folder", setting "View Type" to "Medium", as well as a different "Show / Hide Hotkey" (Win+F2, Win+F3, ... are viable choices);

3) For easier visual identification, set different background pictures for each folder in "Customization";

4) Open "FoldersOptions.ini" in QW2F folder with any text editor and change all "IsMaximized=0" to "1".

Launch and you're good to go -- to get back to the default desktop, press Win+D. There are a few quirks to iron, but not a bad solution in the end. :)
