Second thought ! Hum maybe third thought!
I am not really comfortable with Google Chrome that possibly is spying on its users, but I am not comfortable either with the "Unchrome" utility as well:
- The size of unchrome (614K) is impressive for a simple utility that replaces a string with zeros
- I loaded unchrome in a disassembler (Ida Pro, free version): impressive again: it seems to do more than it says on the face of it!
- It is true that unchrome comes clean at virustotal.com, but that is not enough ...
My conclusion: if you do not use Chrome, you don't need unchrome either!

@juvera - Use Chromium Portable instead - http://www.portablefreeware.com/index.php?id=2169

cnet download page hosts v4.1, dont know if still portable (see technomancer's post above, however)

Tekky said -
"If you register it, you can get some extra features."

I have searched their web site and cannot see how to register the free TreeDBNotes program ?

Rob
PS This brilliant program is everything that I could wish for in a notes tree program, and I was a Business/Systems Analyst for 20 years, developing software.

bzl333 on 2013-02-26 18:39

the opion to:

"First install it, then find 'Tools' - 'Copy Program Onto Flash Drive', then you can un-install it."

is still there for v4.31, seems like should be added as an option to the "how to extract" section since its much easier than moving and copying and deleting all those files and folders, fwiw.

firewall popped up a message saying speccy was trying to access the internet...what's it doing?

a on 2010-08-26 16:52

I get that too, earlier versions of Recuva did the same thing. I think it's checking for updates, eventually that can be turned off via the options.

BovineMage on 2013-01-23 04:03

Nice, small program to check specs. Useful when you know absolutely nothing about the system you're working on, and just for occassional system temp checks.

PDF-XChange Viewer is a feature-rich program that displays multiple PDF documents within a tabbed interface. Edit features include the ability to rotate documents, add comments/annotations to any PDF file, apply custom stamps from any image/PDF file/Windows clipboard, mark-up pages with text and objects, and type directly on any PDF page in "Typewriter" mode. Additional features include capturing the document with the snapshot tool (copies an area to clipboard), measuring tools for distance, area, and perimeter, and more.

A recommended picture-to-text OCR plugin is available (thanks Bruce).

I have used most of the free and pay4 PDF apps but I really like PDF-XChange, its not bloated like many others and it doesn't use a lot of MEM or slow down computer on all OS I have tried. The OCR in the newer version works great, and allows me to do some things with file that are badass.Of course 4me anytime I can have a great App that's also Portable I'm gonna use it. Thanks for all the hard work the owner did to makes this a very useful App for all of us.

Love how the search tool works with the current PDF, all files opened in tabs, or even an entire folder or drive, with results appearing in an easily accessible side window organized by files and instances. This is the best freeware search tool I've used so far (outside of DocFetcher as it searches more PDFs).
