You do that: no cognitive dissonance will persist in properly imbibed synapses... :ēD

Found a VERY old RealAudio-format video file the other day that nothing else would open it but SMPlayer. Still prefer VLC for everyday use, but will always keep this on-hand.

Media Player Classic - Home Cinema v1.6.7.7114 Updated

Checker on 25 Apr 2013
  • 21MB (uncompressed)
  • Suggested by Rick

Media Player Classic Home Cinema (MPC-HC) is derived from Media Player Classic (MPC), a media player that mimics the interface of Windows Media Player 6.4. Includes a variety of bugfixes, additional languages and decoders, support for EVR rendering, hardware acceleration for H.264 and VC-1 video, and more.

Alternatively, X-MediaPlayerClassic_HomeCinema and Media Player Classic - Home Cinema Portable are also available.

Category:
System Requirements: WinXP / Vista / Win7 / Win8
Writes settings to: Application folder
Dependencies: GDIPLUS.DLL. It has also been reported that proper MP4 and MKV playback requires DirectX 10.
Stealth: ? No
Unicode support: Yes
Path portability: No
License: GPL
How to extract:
  1. Download the ZIP or 7zip package and extract to a folder of your choice
  2. Create a text file with the following content:

    [Settings]

  3. Save the text file with the file name mpc-hc.ini or mpc-hc64.ini for the 64-bit version
  4. Launch mpc-hc.exe or mpc-hc64.exe
(Thanks to Ruby for these instructions.)
What's new? New:
  • DVB capture: Improve channel switching
  • Subtitle downloader improvements:
    - Sort by language and then by filename by default. Subtitles matching a language set as preferred in the options are now displayed first in the result list
    - Double-clicking or pressing the "Enter" key will download the selected subtitle(s)
  • New INI parser: the accesses are now cached for faster settings loading/saving. Using the INI file should now be as fast as using the registry
  • Playlist improvements:
    - Scroll and select the first newly added item
    - Put MPC-HC on top and give the focus to the playlist after a drag and drop
Changed:
  • Replace "On top -> Never" by "On top -> Default". In most of the cases "On top -> Default" will have the exact same behavior than "On top -> Never" but it won’t try to override the "On top" flag if an external tool sets it
  • Re-enable VSync by default for Windows XP users
Updated:
  • Little CMS to v2.5 (git cde00fd)
  • VirtualDub to v1.10.4-test6
  • Basque, Catalan, Czech, French, German, Greek, Simplified Chinese, Slovak, Turkish and Ukrainian translations
Fixed:
  • Fix a crash when VMR-7 (renderless) renderer failed to load
  • SSA subtitles rendering: Improve error checking to avoid possible crashes when the SSA script was using obviously wrong values
  • DVD subtitles: Improve rendering in case of overlapping. Ensure that both subtitles will be shown.
  • Fix loading of MicroDVD subtitles
  • "After Playback": Always give "Once" events a higher priority than "Always" events
  • "File -> Load Subtitle" didn’t work anymore for DVD
  • Go to dialog: Fix frame rate detection for DVDs

i can vouch for MPC-HC. unless it fails (which is rare), it is always better than VLC as the former does not form ghost image and so on. i am very surprised to see that MPC-HC can even play a very large size 3D full-SBS file as side-by-side video without a hitch (it does not render "3D" effect though;well, it does not claim either). powerDVD10, the well-known and super-expensive software, which is supposed to play 3D with compatible display, does not play the same file at all.

abc on 2012-09-08 17:27

Can someone else confirm that winpenpack launcher for mpc-hc is stealth? my test results (with regshot and windows in virtualbox) came out clean, so I'm using that version.

Fixitman on 2013-03-19 00:21

Running version 1.6.2.4902, works fine. RTFM... System Requirements:
---------------------
* An SSE capable CPU
* The latest DirectX 9.0c runtime (June 2010). Install it regardless of
the operating system, they all need it.
That might be the cause for the people reporting blue screens.
I tried VLC some time back, an it was a dog, it tried to take over my system, won't trust it ever again. MPC (minimalist software for video, unlike "modern" things with playlists and other unnecessary crap and its "modern" version with all that (MPC HC) are great!

freakazoid-download link works and have seen this on other sites, same version says lite-asking the author is hard on sourceforge.

Ruby on 2012-10-23 06:36

@rodger123, early on, MPlayerWW was available as a 'Lite' and also a 'Full' version; the full version/pkg contained a slew of extra codecs, tools, etc...

If you follow the 'Download' link provided here and scroll down that page to 'OldVersions' and on that page scroll down to the bottom, you'll find the mplayer_full/mplayer_lite links.

Allen on 2013-01-29 23:20

Anyone know how to install the "Mplayer extra package" listed above?
Thanks
