YUMI (Your Universal Multiboot Installer) can be used to create a multi-boot USB flash drive containing multiple operating systems, antivirus utilities, disc cloning, diagnostic tools, and more. Aside from a few distributions, all files are stored within the Multiboot folder, making for a nicely organized Multiboot Drive that can still be used for other storage purposes. YUMI uses syslinux to boot extracted distributions stored on the USB device, and reverts to using grub to Boot Multiple ISO files from USB, if necessary.
YUMI works much like Universal USB Installer, except it can be used to install more than one distribution to run from your USB. Distributions can also be uninstalled.

Tested out the other day to get both DBAN and then Knoppix on a USB drive and it worked very well. I was initially annoyed that the tool wasn't automatically downloading and writing: I had to let it launch a web browser to download the ISO, then direct the tool where to get it, and then start creating a USB boot drive. However, I couldn't think of a way this could be done automatically without getting on my nerves (what do you do with the ISO after it's burned - delete it? how?).

I use YUMI in conjunction with 'Command Prompt Here' and 'WGET for Windows'...

I've been using this instead of Unetbootin and LinuxLive USB Creator (LiLi) for the last 6 months or so. Not as pretty at LiLi but its fantastic being able to easily add multiple Linux distros and even Windows Installs onto a single flash drive. |

Excellent text editor. Loads fast like NPP and has many enhancements not found in NPP. Doesn`t seem quite as feature packed as RJTextEd, which is possibly in the top 5 free editors.

Wish this would store any changes you make to it's highlighting in a separate file so it doesn't get overwritten when you update :|

After playing with SynWrite a bit more, I've found it bogs down when navigating a large (86MB) file, and occasionally hogs the computer. This is on a 2GHz CPU with 1.5 Gig ram, but competitors like PSPad and EditPadLite don't have similar problems. |
WinSCP is a file transfer client with an available single-window or dual-pane interface. The program supports FTP and secure connections including SSH, SSL/TLS, as well as legacy SCP and has a built-in directory synchronization tool to synchronizes changes between local and remote directories. Also supports proxy, SSH tunnels, and IPv6.
Alternatively, WinSCP Portable is multilingual and supports PuTTY Portable.

chris: There's no need to copy/move your external program directory within WinSCP directory.

@linuxamp I like using Portable Apps because you can update all your apps in a few clicks and if the app is no longer natively portable (or "stealth" for example) the portable apps wrappers would handle that no problem. |
CUETools helps ensure an album image is preserved accurately by managing lossless audio and CUE sheet format conversion. Since many applications don't keep track of preserving gaps and CUE sheet contents during conversion, or don't support all possible CUE sheet styles, CUETools preserves both with no loss in quality.
For example, foobar2000 loses disc pre-gap information when converting an album image, and doesn't support gaps in appended (noncompliant) CUE sheets.

FYI, CueTools includes CueRipper which according to Hydrogen Audio is on par with Exact Audio Copy (see http://wiki.hydrogenaudio.org/index.php?title=Comparison_of_CD_rippers).

Softpedia gave it 5/5 http://www.softpedia.com/reviews/linux/calibre-Review-231233.shtml and other reviews have also been very good.

Ton of features and capabilities. It's nice to see a tool that just doesn't have any comparison to commercial alternatives in terms of overall functionality and flexibility. If you're an active user of almost any eReader, it seems at some point you'll at some point need this program to share, convert, manage, or sync multiple devices.

Calibre may be good, but it wants to copy my entire ebook library to another folder/tree! There doesn't seem to be any way to stop this. I also don't see a way for it to add recent acquisitions. |
