Tested with Mac-formatted HFS+ drive today and this worked beautifully. Very easy and fast.

Tip: aside of Universal Extractor the .exe (Linux_Reader-v3.4.exe) can also be extracted with 7Zip, a portable version being availabe on this site, 7-ZipPortable.exe.
Also note that Linux_Reader v3.4 does not have a sub folder $INSTDIR anymore: LinuxReader.exe/LinuxReader64.exe can be found the base folder.

@pfw70: Thanks, I removed the $INTDIR step from extraction instructions.

I've got to say that DSpeech has come a long way over the past few years. The last time I tested it the program felt like it was just a simple throwaway text reader with Microsoft voices front-end program. What I tested today had loads of features, usability, and a great interface. This contrasts a lot of other voice-to-text tools that I've been playing with, including LibreOffice and Firefox add-ons, which are fairly basic.

Very nice to see.

I'm really impressed with this program. It handles changing voices midstream (so you can create conversations) better than Balabolka (and a lot of programs can't chance voices at all.

I am having one problem: I can't get the special tags to work. The silence tag works fine, but the others appear to have no effect at all.

Can anyone suggest what I might be doing wrong?

Sorry, I just noticed the noping.net site was down. The program is now avalable at http://www.tristable.net/osiva/. The source code is also available there, Osiva is now under the GPL.

Thank you. Links updated. I noticed Osiva is at version 1.30 but the file size is much smaller compared with the version listed on the portable freeware collection. Could you post a changelog, please? Also, I understand Osiva is free and gpl'd but what about "If you use Osiva please send me an email"? Is it mandatory? Cheers.

May work well for 9X and XP, but crashes on Win 7.

I do not have access to Win7 to test this but you might try deleting LS.exe.manifest located in the program folder. Its only purpose is to change the GUI to match the XP Luna theme. I found that deleting it greatly improved stability on XP. If you try it please post back with results.

Non malicious files according to virus total. Clam claims it could be a PUA but only because it performs low level analysis of a hard drive (which of course is its role in life).
My company, virusbusters, has used this program for over four years now with no issues. It has passed every antivirus scan of our systems and we run hundreds of them
The file is a zip file and opens in 7-zip and using windows XP compressed file explorer.

This program worked beautifully in testing an old external hard drive that was behaving strangely. Instead of relegating it to a secondary backup drive, it now looks to have plenty of life left.

NickR: Prefer LibreOffice's Drawing tool, which takes some getting used to but also does a bit more than Dia. It's also in active development.

Briefly used it to draw a complex diagram for a project at work. Seems powerful but usability and UI require getting used to.

why doesn't the author put all the .wav files in a subfolder?

This software protects and monitors changes to your registry and system files on Windows. It has saved me lots of time and effort with foistware and other unwanted system changes made by certain programs. It offers a registry backup facility which backs up your entire registry every 28 days and retains the last 15 copies. This has also saved me when I rather over-zealously tried to remove GotoMyPC from my computer. In terms of resource usage and intrusiveness, you will barely notice it's there, especially once you have exempted certain alerts from coming up after your initial deployment. Excellent and well recommended.
