  • Released on 23 Apr 2017
  • Suggested by I am Baas

Balabolka is a feature-rich program to read text aloud from a variety of file types including DOC, RTF, PDF, ODT, FB2 and HTML. The program uses Microsoft's own Speech API 4 and 5, but lets you fine tune various voice parameters, including rate and pitch, and a substitution list can also be applied to improve the quality of the voice's articulation. The program supports customized font and background color, skins, control reading from the system tray or by the global hotkeys.

Balabolka can also save the synchronized text to external LRC files or in MP3 tags inside the audio files. When the audio file is played with players on a computer or on modern digital audio players, the text will be displayed synchronously (in the same way as lyrics for songs).

Also includes batch conversion tools from of a wide variety of document formats to audio or plain text and a file compare tool, file splitter, and screen magnification window.

DSpeech is a text-to-speech program with the option of saving the output to a variety of formats, great for creating audio books from text sources. It also supports dynamically changing the features of the voices eg. insert pauses, emphasize specific words, spell them out etc. using tags.

The program works out-of-the-box on WinXP and above, using the included Microsoft speech engine SAPI5. For WinNT/2K, you will need to install the speech engine separately. You will find links to plugins, speech engines and voice sets on the program website.

The program can import text from TXT, DOC, DOCX, RTF, HTML, XML, and PDF and output to MP3, OGG, AAC, WMA.

I obtained Lingoes dictionaries by looking up an older version, such as "Lingoes Translator 2.8.1 + Dictionaries". I used
http://uploading.com/files/thankyou/ca64ece4/Lingoes.Translator.and.Dictionaries.part1.rar & http://uploading.com/files/thankyou/92e1656f/Lingoes.Translator.and.Dictionaries.part2.rar . I used 7-zip to unzip the files (unzip "part1" and you will unzip the whole file). The dictionaries are found in the folder "dictionaries". A list is found at http://download-pedia.com/?a=f&b=OgRWJSMhCGcRWjkWCgJZUAcoSyolXA!! , although the links did not seem to work. Also, if you try to download the ".ld2" files from the Lingoes website, I did get a download window sometimes from "Download from Dbank" if I left clicked all over the first screen that came up about 100 times. Every now and then you will get a series of downloads from "Download from SkyDrive", but only on certain dictionary downloads.

The latest version of Lingoes is 2.9.2- http://www.lingoes.net/en/translator/download.htm
However I would like to ask- is there a way to block the annoying ads? I would rather stop using Lingoes than tolerating the obtrusive ads Lingoes spews out at every search.
