CrystalDiskInfo monitors disk health status and temperature, monitoring/graphing of S.M.A.R.T. diagnostic information. The program also tells you how many times the hard disk has been turned on and how many hours.

Functional with magnetic and solid state disks.

@Andrew Lee: I have no objections. I'm just asking. I remember that quite a long time ago new folders and files arrived, and the procedure is still the same. That's why I'm wondering if it's up to date with these files.
I still follow this procedure and still use the portable version.

@dmocha: I just downloaded the ZIP file for v9.0.1, and it seems the file/dir structure is still pretty much the same, so the extraction instruction should still be valid. Could you provide details on the diffs that you are seeing?

Might be worth staying on the previous release if you have a Samsung SSD like the very popular EVO. Why wouldn't you want to have the health the % available???

@rodger123: This "worse" version only leaves files in Internet Explorer's cache. IMHO, the overhead caused by PortableApps.com Launcher is not worth it.

The portable version of this app is still at 3.3.0. The installable is at 3.5.2. If that's what you want us to download, then the instructions need to be changed.

The app DOES use 1 GB = 1,000,000,000 bytes. It says so in the help file - go to Help, How to Use, Main Window, general information.

Mopah - I think it's better. HDD Health doesn't give ANY info on external USB drives on my system, but Crystal does.

Can read S.M.A.R.T. from disc connected to RAID!, others program don't (for example HDD Health doesn't recognize my RAID)

I use WinXP SP3, default browser 'Firefox', CrystalDiskInfo 2.04 - I can't start CrystalDiskInfo, it crashes immediately.
What's wrong with it?

This application seems to be using the industry manufacturing standard in measuring disk size not the base 1,024 used by every Micro$oft PC.

It seems to be using 1,000 as a base rather than the (?programmers?) accepted standard of 1,024.

1 Gigabyte at 1024 = 1,073,741,824 bytes
1 gigabyte at 1000 = 1,000,000,000 bytes
A difference of = 73,741,824 bytes
Please tell me if this is wrong because the only other answer I can come up with is the disk has a large unused space on it.

The latest version still crashes on my machine running same setup as last time (HP Pavilion dv5, Vista Home Premium 32bit SP1). I've never been a fan of those "reCAPTURE" thingies, it's kind of disapointing to see it implemented on this website too.

Love these "Crystal Dew World" programs! This one RELIABLY retrieved Hard Drive S.M.A.R.T. info from IDE & SATA Drives, Internal and External, including through USB (most don't)!
Several NICE Programs at http://crystalmark.info/software/index-e.html , including a cool Benchmark/SysInfo program, "CrystalMark 2004".
I have NOT check them all out for Portability, but IMO, they're worth a look! ;)

HDD Health told me both my drives were 100% healthy, -1degree Celsius, and didn't list any S.M.A.R.T attributes (Basically didn't work at all).

This app worked on all my drives (even one which was connected through an SATA/PATA adapter) and gave me a "Caution" state on one of my drives for high "Reallocated Sectors Count" prompting me to replace the drive.

So yes, I'd say it's in SOME way better.
