v2.0.0.0 is now out in stable, after almost 10 long years, and it's still the best Hex editor!

__philippe on 2018-07-18 09:54

Seconding Special's praise for HxD 2.0

HxD was remarkably useful yet in its former v1.1.7 incarnation.
Ten years on, the v2.0 release, resurrected from limbo, Phoenix-like,
offers an amazing list of new features and enhancements, such as:

• New Data Inspector
• New Unicode support
• Enhanced Search window
• …

Recommended.

Hexplorer v2.6

webfork on 24 Jan 2021
  • 1MB (uncompressed)

Hexplorer is an editor for viewing/editing files in hexadecimal format. Its unique feature is the ability to interpret and visualize binary data in various ways eg. view as BMP header or FAT32 boot sector. It comes with a built-in pixel viewer to show binaries as bitmaps. It also doubles up as a disk sector editor since it is able to access logical disks under WinNT/2K/XP.

NOTE: If the program starts up with a very small font, select View from the menu and choose Options - Font - Fixed Roman Large.

thanks for the tip billybox, i've been looking forever trying to resize the text to a readable state..

Maximilian on 2007-04-30 21:12

Wow, this is not only the most visually appealing, but also the most useful hex editor I've ever tried!

I agree with BillyBob in that the default font (Fixed Roman) is way too small. It would have been better if the author set the default to "OEM Fixed Font" or something.

I also like Autumn, and look forward to more color schemes.

rgann on 2007-12-12 00:57

Yes, it has some unusual features, but it is not truely portable. After installing and playing with it for a while, I discovered that it stored the primary (font selection, colors, etc) in two files (hexplorer.dat and mclip.dat) in "%windir%\Application Data". I did not use all the features and tools so other files may be created.

Thanks!

81KB. I don't know why I love these small proggies so much. Anyhow, this editor works great. It is not polished, but it certainly works. Good call, AlephX.

  • When pasting hex strings from the clipboard, separation of hex chars with spaces is no longer mandatory, e.g. both 0D 0A as well as 0D0A is now valid. This refers to dialogs (search, replace and so on) and the menu item Edit | Clipboard | Paste from hex string. Note: the formats can't be mixed (e.g. 0D 0A00FF is not allowed, the format must be either 0D 0A 00 FF, either 0D0A00FF).
  • Shortcuts for menu items File | Close (Ctrl+F4), File | Save As (F12), Address | Remember Address (Ctrl+Alt+R), Address | Goto Remembered (Ctrl+Alt+G), Tools | Options (Ctrl+Alt+O).
  • Bugfix: Backspace now works within an hex input field when the whole hex string is selected.
  • Bugfix: Invoking CHM help file now works when starting XVI32 outside its own directory.
