FastCopy v3.52 Updated

billon on 21 Jul 2018
  • 602KB (uncompressed)
  • Released on 21 Jul 2018
  • Suggested by pplknownothin

FastCopy is a file copy and synchronization tool with a variety of available extras. It uses different strategies (multi-threading, buffering) to help ensure maximum device throughput, as well as optional verification to make sure data is transferred correctly. It does not use the system cache, so other processes do not get bogged down during the copy process and a speed setting is also available, including pause. It supports Unix-style include/exclude wildcards filters.

Alternatively, PortableApps.com's FastCopy Portable is stealth.

I've was able to copy about 10 GB of files from an aging and extremely noisy and slow hard drive via a USB adapter -- Would have gotten a head ache had I copied from windows explorer, or tried to. PS. 0/42 flagged by virus total, it's clean. PSS. Development seems to have slowed down but there's a beta floating that adds some features / fixes some issues...some other tools are better than TC like gsrichcopy 360/fast copy/robocopy

JudyGarland on 2018-04-08 07:06

It's fast and solid, but it doesn't check file content. It compares files size and date but NOT the actual content.
For example, it happens that you have a file with same age and size but different/updated content (some applications are able to generate such containers, with constant dimension and untouched last modified date).
This way, I lost my data. After several years, I file like described upon suffered a sort of corruption. Not a big problem, I thought, and I overwritten it with the backupped copy. I discovered later it wasnt never updated, the file was just like I copied at first time, original state lets say. Also, since the file was overwritten there was no way to recover even the faulty one.
OK, my fault. The author specifies the rules correctly, size and date. But not everybody is aware about that. So, if you have such files, be carefull and use another app, like winmerge or similar.
Furthermore, FC is able to verify the backupped files hash, but it doesnt verify in any way the actual files in source/destination folder or partition.

The newly introduced installer writes to the registry when choosing "extract only" (key: HKCU\Software\HSTools)

Why do the dependencies include the administrator rights?
SyMenu can work with normal rights too. It can even work from read only supports or network paths.

AndTheWolf - It's fixed. Some editors keep pointing to static URLs instead of the download page for some reason. So, when it's updated, the download winds up wrong.

__philippe on 2018-03-31 15:31

Belatedly noticed FocusWriter's hefty 138MB footprint,
a tad rich for an alleged "minimalistic" word processor...;-)

philippe: true. I'll add a note that the minimalism refers to the interface.

Optionally, to save each note as an individual text file (the default database file is not easily readable by other programs), create a folder (e.g. Notes) and enter the name of that directory into the File Directory blank under the Storage tab (relative pathways like ..\Notes work fine). Existing notes in this folder will be automatically added.

I'm not keeping this. It looks like a capable enough app, but the skins are offensive. Downloaded, extracted, 45 seconds later it's gone. (And don't even begin to tell me "just delete the skins", because there are three embedded skins are are worse than the external ones)
