a: Yes Google Chrome has a more catchier name but do they offer a portable version of their software, I think not. [2008-12-31 09:54]
notanon752: Try this site for portable google chrome:
http://stadt-bremerhaven.de/2008/12/23/portable-google-chrome-1015442-developer-release/
I kinda prefer to use this IRON for some reason. Just don't like using google, they tend to secretly archive and other nefarious unAmerican stuff.
(What software is this website using to do this "Post your Comment" module? I have website and want to implement something similar. Please share the good stuff.) [2008-12-31 15:35]
Rokth: only supports ssl 2.0
I see no reason to use it [2009-01-02 07:44]
ThomasAlan: I see no reason to use it, if you want privacy simply use UnChrome and you can't use custom themes with it. [2009-01-02 15:23]
Opsimathic: If I am not mistaken, UnChrome appears to work on the installed version of GoogleChrome and not the portable version. IRON therefore retains a certain level of useful utility. [2009-01-03 09:29]
halnine: Iron also has a preliminary implementation of AdBlock, which is its greatest advantage (not specified in main post).
For that reason only, it's now my default browser (although my MAIN browser is still Firefox). [2009-01-03 23:22]
mhack: "Good Artists COPY, Great Artists STEAL"
I have used Google Chrome and I like the way how they make the interface different from the conventional browser and I also like the Task Manager, a new to web browsers.
Then there was IRON with all the nice features of Chrome but without the negative one, the privacy issue. With add-ons/extensions soon to come, I think this will be a good contender to FireFox in time. [2009-01-06 18:06]
sabwab: why would u use open software from small group off people as opposed to the Google software thats under critisism and survaillance.. and such? [2009-01-09 04:03]
Midas: Because it the exactly the same code re-factored to extirpate the privacy compromising features? [2009-01-10 13:53]
Axel: SSL fixed, Themes are working, too (some at least) - still the better alternative to Chrome, IMHO [2009-03-31 08:52]
Jake: New version (v2.0.178.0 released on May 17, 2009) is faster and a lot of bugs have been fixed. If you like Google Chrome, SRWare Iron is definitely worth a look. This browser is slowly but surely (quit calling me Shirley!) becoming my primary browser. [2009-05-21 14:01]
Zeus: This baby is FAST!! [2009-06-27 06:30]
Donald: Chrome Plugins for Iron are available at
http://www.chrome-plugins.info/en/
Not many yet but I am sure more will arrive.
Please contact the AdBlock Plus people and see if they can make ADBLOCK PLUS extention for Iron [2009-09-16 13:48]
freakazoid: I've updated the listing for Iron, but for those of you who are adventurous, there's a new 4.0 beta available:
http://www.srware.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=831 [2009-11-14 20:01]
the accountant: you can copy and paste bookmarks between different versions or different machines instead of syncing. Also use yauba.com to get more privacy as search logs are not retained longer than 24 hours. Its different to google but has refining options. Now Iron has a lot more extensions such as invisblehand and we can kiss Firehog 3 goodbye. [2010-01-02 11:22]
freakazoid: Iron 4.0.275 RC available here:
http://www.srware.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=1020
When official 4.0 release is announced, this listing will be updated. [2010-01-03 02:15]
helg: since firefox poratble is blocked by my employer (providing me only IE 5 or 6 and he didn't think to block Ironkey this is the most advanced browser to my disposal. [2010-01-05 11:15]
Triton: I'm using the most recent beta release 4.0.275, and it works just like Chrome. I copied my settings and extensions from the Chrome folder to this one, and it has worked fine, if not better than Chrome, ever since. It loads the themes and extensions from the main chrome site as well. It's basically Google Chrome Portable, but without the privacy issues. [2010-01-08 12:51]
Terrine: I've been using this for ages and it just keeps getting better!
For a breakup of differences between Iron and Chrome, see
http://www.srware.net/en/software_srware_iron_chrome_vs_iron.php [2010-02-03 07:44]
ScrewGoogle: As open as Chrome is, it's still mainly develop by google themselves. They are a bunch of spy-ware. SRW Iron is the way to go. It include ad block, instead of the shitty ad hides extension that chrome has. Chrome will never be able to block ads...it's google policy. [2010-02-07 20:14]

For more general topics (eg. whether apps that write to the registry, leave traces on the host machine, rely on certain versions of IE etc. can be considered portable), please post to the Portable Freeware Discussion forum. If your virus scanner has detected a virus in the application, please email the author directly or post to the forum. Note that false positives (i.e. flagging a virus when there is actually none) are extremely common for virus scanners. When in doubt, try an online scanner like Online Malware Scanner or VirusTotal, which scans files using multiple anti-virus engines. It is very likely to be a false positive if only a few engines raise the red flag.
