Now at version 3.6.013

iamjamieq on 2023-04-05 14:24

This is absolutely the best sync app available. I have tried every other one, and not a single other sync app on this website can properly two-way sync two folders. SyncFolders is the only one that can handle files/subfolders deleted in the target folder where all others see those deleted files as missing and copy them from the source folder, which is not the desired behavior.

The ONLY thing that stinks is that the background sync no longer hides the popup in the system tray anymore. It used to sync silently, but when I switched jobs and therefore computers, I now can't get it to sync silently. It shows the system tray popup at the start and end of every sync. Otherwise SyncFolders is absolutely perfect.

Zim v0.75.2

Andrew Lee on 13 Jul 2023
  • 67MB (uncompressed)
  • Released on 7 Jul 2023
  • Suggested by Midas

Zim is desktop Wiki system that lets you maintain a collection of wiki pages. Each page can contain links to other pages, simple formatting and images. Pages are stored in a folder structure, like in an outliner, and can have attachments. Creating a new page is as easy as linking to a nonexistent page. All data is stored in plain text files with wiki formatting. Various plugins provide additional functionality, like a task list manager, an equation editor, a tray icon, and support for version control.

Zim can be used to:

  • Keep an archive of notes
  • Keep a daily or weekly journal
  • Take notes during meetings or lectures
  • Organize task lists
  • Draft blog entries and emails
  • Do brainstorming
Currently, Zim is only supported on 64-bit version of Windows 10. 32-bit Windows is not supported.

Category:
Runs on:Win10
Writes settings to: Application folder
Unicode support: Yes
License: Freeware/Open Source
How to extract: Download the installer and run. You will be given the option to install a portable version to a folder of your choice. Also, make sure to deselect ".zim file association" and "Create registry keys and uninstaller" as these are enabled by default.

After installation, do not select run. Instead, go to the destination folder and edit environ.ini:

[Environment]
HOME=./
TEMP=./tmp
XDG_CONFIG_HOME=./config
XDG_CONFIG_DIRS=
XDG_DATA_HOME=./data
XDG_DATA_DIRS=
XDG_CACHE_HOME=./cache

Basically, the default values are relative paths "../" that points to the outer directory and we want to point them to the base directory.

Finally, launch zim.exe.

Auslogics Registry Defrag v14.0.0.3

My only experience with a registry defragger left my system unable to boot (used backup registry to fix). I'm not writing this to take a cheap shot at the makers of this app but I think a better explanation is needed on their web pages. Most of the 'bullet-point' features sound like hype (reduce size, windows=faster, performance=faster).

Not sure what "remove slack spaces" and "Eliminates structural defects in the Registry" mean... Registry cleaners, disk defraggers, contiguous blocks of data, etc ... I understand. Registry compactors that fix structural defects... I don't understand.
