NFO Pad (http://www.portablefreeware.com/?id=2164) is my preferred option for this -- it can double as a capable Notepad replacement, too...

IMHO, currently the best .nfo and .diz file viewer coupled with a pretty decent text editor; NFOPad can save its settings to the registry or in an INI file.

F.Y.I
This is not stealth, it creates a folder in %Profile%>AppData>Roaming called "ATViewer".

gurp99 on 2011-10-13 23:15

I am writing a research article on the importance of universal viewers and how they can be used in the preservation of digital records (ie. computer files).

Can you please tell me the technical basis of how the universal viewer works? How does it identify the various supported file formats and view them in the viewer?

Any information would be very helpful, I am having a tough time finding information on how universal viewers actually work.

Thank you

Chris: a filter is in place to avoid too many updates, but its up to the author how they want to release their software. Daily releases are common in some circles and don't imply the updates aren't worthwhile.

Chris on 2011-05-25 08:48

A version number bump and nothing else is dishonest, it's just used to increase a software's ranking. As I said above, if there is an actual change - fine. But if you read above my last comment you will note that the author was just changing the version number and nothing else. If we could exclude apps from the RSS read, I'd do that - but I get sick of seeing the same program day after day after day listed in the feed.

webfork on 2011-05-25 17:53

Chris: As user "ale" pointed out, its more than just a number change. You're welcome to add to the forum topic if you disagree with the current policy on this. http://www.portablefreeware.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=6134
