iamjamieq on 2023-04-05 14:24

This is absolutely the best sync app available. I have tried every other one, and not a single other sync app on this website can properly two-way sync two folders. SyncFolders is the only one that can handle files/subfolders deleted in the target folder where all others see those deleted files as missing and copy them from the source folder, which is not the desired behavior.

The ONLY thing that stinks is that the background sync no longer hides the popup in the system tray anymore. It used to sync silently, but when I switched jobs and therefore computers, I now can't get it to sync silently. It shows the system tray popup at the start and end of every sync. Otherwise SyncFolders is absolutely perfect.

Recent statement
--- I am developing jaBuT 32 bit only because to compile it in 64 bit too it would be cost a bunch of money to get a proper developer licence ---

jaBuT Backup is now 32 bit and 64 bit due to some licence changes.

FireRabbit on 2020-12-08 20:21

When I first found jaBuT I liked it and thought it was working, until I realized that it stops working every time you sleep/wake your computer unless you manually restart it. unfortunately I realized that after I needed to recover files I thought it was baking up.

I reported this to the developer to learn that jaBuT is made this way by design. No backup program I have ever used [besides this one] is made to stop working when you sleep your computer, and I was not expecting that behavior at all.

For me I have moved to Backup4Sure and am quite happy with it, and unlike jaBuT it has actually saved my files when I needed it to save my files.

That said I still think jaBuT is a decent program for the right tasks, though I would be very hesitant to ever trust it again. It's always hard to trust again after you've been burned, especially when you've found something that works for you.

DSynchronize lets you copy, move, or synchronize folders on your computer or over a network. The program can sync in both directions, making both folders up-to-date with the latest data, do real-time sync where any changes copied to destination and even verify it's transfers. The program can schedule operations, add timestamps to the destination folder and keep multiple backups (iterations).

If in use, the program can even eject a USB device when an operation is complete.

Warning: DSynchronize is meant for power users! By default the program does not send deleted files to the Recycle Bin, but are instead deleted outright. Use caution in initial sync tests with sensitive data.

Bvckup 2 is a backup/synchronization tool that uses "delta" copy methods, meaning it only transfers changes to a file or files rather than recopying the entire set. This is frequently faster, saves bandwidth for network backups and can help flash media live longer by reducing the overall number of disk writes. The program can do real-time, periodic or manual backups, and also functions as a file copier that can pause and resume both local and network transfers.

Note: this program is an unsupported beta, meaning that the author provides a commercial version of the program that includes support. A previous, freeware version with fewer features is available from bvckup.com.

  3. Rename the text file bvckup2-portable.bat
  4. Launch bvckup2-portable.bat
  5. Under Options - Preferences - Software updates, select "Don't check don't remind," as this program will always suggest downloading the latest version, which is not freeware.

@webfork, which issue? The empty directories or the ProgramData folder? I have 3 laptops running Win 10, 64bit and it's done the same on them all.

webfork on 2019-09-02 22:46

@hamasaki: the ProgramData issue. I'll add a note to the entry.

@webfork: No problem.

I was not able to download through the application website or download website given in the entry.

I was able to download from softpedia a version 1.92

I have used SyncExp for years now and find it impossible to do without.
I do have a problem though. I would like either to turn off the automatic log file updating or somehow redirect the log file to another folder instead of the syncexp.exe folder.
Can anyone help?

Download link not working and appears to be dead for some time.

Last known link that worked for me today is on the Wayback Machine at Archive.org.

BlueFish File Mirror v1.8b

I am Baas on 13 Dec 2015
  • 577KB (uncompressed)
  • Released on
  • Suggested by I am Baas

BlueFish File Mirror monitors two identical folders (up to 100) and maintains any changes, copying to another root folder in real-time. Supports large file operations (over 4 gigs).

Limitations:

  • BlueFish can only mirror changes after it starts, so folders must be identical before running the program. Also, the BlueFish only monitors physical file changes, not attributes such as date, time, and read-only changes.
  • Does not support unicode path names

Note: this program is offline, switched download location to Softpedia.

Category:
Runs on:Win2K / WinXP / Vista / Win7
Writes settings to: Application folder
Stealth: ? Yes
Unicode support: Yes
License: Freeware
How to extract: Download the ZIP package and extract to a folder of your choice. Launch Config.exe to configure program settings (writes to config.ini), then launch BlueFish.exe.
What's new?
  • Minor bug fixes.
  • Fixes a bug in configurator which makes the excluded folders not be excluded.

I tried BlueFish on my laptop to keep the "My Documents" folder in sync with my main desktop computer and it does work nicely, although not in the way I thought it would.

I chose to monitor the "My Documents" folder on my Windows XP laptop and have it mirrored to the "Documents" folder on my desktop computer running Vista. BlueFish started by mirroring the entire folder structure containing the "My Documents" folder, so there was a new folder called "Documents and Settings" under the "Documents" folder on my Vista computer.

It would be nice to choose the My Documents folder to be the root folder rather than have BlueFish mirror the entire folder structure in which "Documents and Settings" is the root. I don't foresee this problem if the two computers being synchronized are both running the same version of Windows.

I don't mean to make such a long post and I'm not putting this program down as I do think it has potential. I'm going to see if I can find a workaround to sync my folders across two different operating systems.

@mike, if you're not scared of using a shell, I'd recommend robocopy. Has never failed me.

link to download and website appear dead?

smallhagrid on 2013-01-25 19:08

Lupo Pensuite has it - but there's no way to tell if it really can ONLY do file changes or not.
I have a single database file I update and use at home & work (because of my poor memory...), it is 50mb+, so if I've got to copy it whole it is a huge time-waster.
Has anyone here gotten this to just copy changes into the destination file ?!?
Thanks.

webfork on 2013-01-30 00:08

@smallhagrid: I don't know if this program has that functionality - I'd look to FreeFileSync http://www.portablefreeware.com/index.php?id=1475 or Dsynchronize http://www.portablefreeware.com/index.php?id=719 here on the site.
