SyncFolders supports 3 synchronization modes - Copy, Backup (Mirror) and Two-Way Synchronization on an unlimited number of files and folders. Other features include preview, file comparison by date and size or by content, integration with Windows task scheduler, filters, connections from or to UNC paths, multiple rules in a single rules file, and deleted or overwritten files can be moved to the recycle bin or to a time-stamped history folder. This is absolutely the best sync app available. I have tried every other one, and not a single other sync app on this website can properly two-way sync two folders. SyncFolders is the only one that can handle files/subfolders deleted in the target folder where all others see those deleted files as missing and copy them from the source folder, which is not the desired behavior. |
jaBuT (just another Backup Tool) Backup is an flexible and powerful backup and synchronization program. It supports different processing modes including copy, move, and compress both with and without file comparison, as well as mirror and sync. The program includes exclusion/inclusion of processed data, a variety of profile options, scheduled execution and a variety of file comparison options.
Supports batch processing, GUI customization, rich tray control, command-line options, and more.

DSynchronize lets you copy, move, or synchronize folders on your computer or over a network. The program can sync in both directions, making both folders up-to-date with the latest data, do real-time sync where any changes copied to destination and even verify it's transfers. The program can schedule operations, add timestamps to the destination folder and keep multiple backups (iterations).
If in use, the program can even eject a USB device when an operation is complete.
Warning: DSynchronize is meant for power users! By default the program does not send deleted files to the Recycle Bin, but are instead deleted outright. Use caution in initial sync tests with sensitive data.

Sinchu: Emphasizing that I've used Dsyncronize for years and it's definitely my go-to sync program, I acknowledge any program that deletes files should probably send them by default to the recycle bin. I've added something to the entry.

Webfork: I had the same problem as sinchu. The program deleted around 500gbs of data overnight. Is there any way I could get this data back? I'm not super knowledgeable in IT but I have a general understanding of how things work. Is there a specific software I could use to get the data back since I don't have any previous versions of the data to restore. Thank you.

@Whitelist: I recommend you post in forums about that. Short version: disconnect the drive that lost data until you're ready to test and look into data recovery programs such as Recuva. |
USBFlashCopy backs up/synchronizes from external storage on the fly. The program runs in the background and copies all or select files from inserted media to a destination of your choice. Includes available copy throttle speed, minimum free space check to avoid filling up your drive, file filters, and can even be set to only copy from selected drives (by serial number).
New drives plugged in are prompted for a new copy profile and transfers include a progress bar. Ideal for people who do much of their work on remote computers and need to automate the process of backing up their files.
Functional in 64-bit. Note that fully transparent operations (no user notification; runs entirely in background) are only available in the registered version.

PathSync synchronizes the contents of two directories. You can choose to synchronize unidirectionally (local to remote, or remote to local), or bidirectionally. Various synchronization options are available, including files to ignore and filename mask. It also provides nifty statistics during the synchronization, so that the user is never wondering how much time is left.

My only issue with this program is for some reason now it keeps making these "PSYN_TMP" files for most of the files I'm syncing, effectively doubling the size of the folder. Also some of the original files seem to be corrupted afterwards. Any idea why it's doing this & how to stop it? |
Unison is a synchronization tool that allows two collections of files and directories to be stored on different hosts or different disks on the same host. Unlike simple mirroring or backup utilities, the program can deal with updates to both replicas of a distributed directory structure. Updates that do not conflict are copied automatically while conflicting updates are detected and shown.
The program is cross-platform (OS X and Linux). X-Unison is a wrapper program for Unison.

I liked this utility very much, but it stopped being portable to non-donors (being a donor in Brazil is complicated for many reasons). I looked for other similar utilities. Bvckup 2 is a backup/synchronization tool that uses "delta" copy methods, meaning it only transfers changes to a file or files rather than recopying the entire set. This is frequently faster, saves bandwidth for network backups and can help flash media live longer by reducing the overall number of disk writes. The program can do real-time, periodic or manual backups, and also functions as a file copier that can pause and resume both local and network transfers.
Note: this program is an unsupported beta, meaning that the author provides a commercial version of the program that includes support. A previous, freeware version with fewer features is available from bvckup.com.
