Back4Sure is a feature-rich backup solution for typical backup use. The program can make a backup to hard-disk, USB drive or network and can also be compressed using high or low compression settings to a ZIP or 7-zip file of various compression levels, as well as encrypted for security.

Other features include filters to backup or exclude specific file types, a cleanup mode to remove old archives, and creation of one or multiple zip files (separated by directory structure). Backups are saved by directory structure either inside the archive or inside the directory for easy restoring. Users can also use multiple settings profiles, or "job" files.

Runs on:Win2K / WinXP / Vista / Win7 / Win8 / Win10
Writes settings to: Application folder
Stealth: ? Yes
Unicode support: Yes
License: Freeware
How to extract: Download the "Portable version" ZIP package and extract to a folder of your choice. Launch Back4Sure.exe.
What's new? Fixed:
  • A bug that deletes the local backup in case the source drive is not mounted.
  • Error where in rare cases a warning about canceling a running backup appears, while the backup is already done.

It's a crying shame that you can only backup folders with this tool, and not individual files within those folders (yes, I know you can set filters, but unless you know in advance what files you want from each folder, this is not practical to use).

what you should know:
Cleanup is optional - it is very close related to an incremental backup.
Using this you have to select the same Target Directory as before to backup only changed files and to delete files on the backup that have been deleted on the original file system as well (the latter one is the actual Cleanup).

Hope it helps ;)

Technomancer: if you mean the entry is unclear, please let us know in forums. If you mean the program itself (and for the RAR distro issue) you might want to contact the developer directly.

@Midas, looks fine to me on my machine.

Screenshot dimensions are much too small to be easily readable.

I like it. I have found a couple of bits hard to understand so if you could make it a little easier to use that would be good.

It would also be a nice feature to offer 'RAR' as another archive method.

I'll keep an eye on new versions and I have to say that I'm tempted to make a donation.

This is EXACTLY what I needed to drop Syncback, which I had used to backup my mobile drive for years. Simple yet complete, it has just the features you want to see in a straightforward backup/sync program. 5 stars from me!

Very confusing to understand the "cleanup" feature, and it doesn't have an append to old file feature. I compared files, and it did not update new changes to original. If thats what it fails to do, whats the use of having a backup????

Is there an easy way to restore a backup or do i have to extract it manually?
BTW i looked through the manual and saw nothing to do with extraction.

Really like this program but a few features were confusing. Had to read the manual to understand the cleanup and multiple zip file method, as well as run a few test backups.
