Unison is a file-synchronization tool that allows two replicas of a collection of files and directories to be stored on different hosts or different disks on the same host. They are modified separately and then brought up to date by propagating the changes in each replica to the other.
Unlike simple mirroring or backup utilities, Unison can deal with updates to both replicas of a distributed directory structure. Updates that do not conflict are propagated automatically. Conflicting updates are detected and displayed.
Cross platform (OS X and Linux). Portable Unison is a portable wrapper for Unison that writes settings to the application folder instead of the user profile folder.

Hi. I've always run the regular Unison from batch files without needing this Portable version, but apparently installing the latest DOT NET and resulting MS updates to my Win7 causes the GTK DLLs to no longer load from the path (I was pointing to the bin under Portable GIMP).

You may be interested to know that I've made a portable package of a relatively recent version of Unison (2.40.16) available here: http://appstogo.mcfadzean.org.uk/index.html#file

Much needed portable (both as in platform independent as in system independent) utility for advanced users. Softpedia download links is dead, but BigD has a working solution (after proper launcher batch script customization) at the link in the previous post. :) |
SyncExp enables the synchronization of files and folders within a single PC or over the LAN. It uses an optimized file comparison algorithm that checks for the existence/time/date/size of files, with automatic activity log, progress report window and preview of action.
Note: Looks like the app homepage has become an ad landing site, so I have updated the download link to point to Softpedia, which still hosts the app.

By selecting "Only include following sub-folder" option, can SyncExpert compare files in added subfolders only ("Include sub-folder" option is selected). Files in deeper subfolders are not compared.

While I second the comments of shodan816 I would like to add that if I open 2 folders (via secondary channels such as SendTo, Open++, etc.) FreeFileSync always opens them with the "File time and size" settings despite I saved the "File content" comparison settings.

I learned that hard way that changing ANY of the Global Synchronization settings INCLUDING 'Deletion Method' and 'Error Handling' will reset any prior customized actions to default actions. Failing to realize this, I had unintentionally screwed up one of my backups. It was minor, but could have been catastrophic. Just a warning: pay attention to those little arrows, it could save your files!

I just downloaded v2.65.0.b. I created 2 "test" folders one on C:\ with 5 folders with files and one empty on D:\ I then ran the snyc and the program completely left one folder out of the sync task. I tried several times with te same result. So, Make sure you check your Task! I tried the same Task with "FolderSync 2" and it worked perfect on the same task. |
Folder Sync is a backup program that can performs comparisons between two directories and then reports new, updated, renamed, moved and deleted files. The program can performs synchronization, as well as full or differential (only items that have changed) from the source to the destination path.

Looks and works well for me, but I understand it will not sync empty subfolders? Guess you could put a dummy file in the source subfolder though as a workaround?
