RIOT (Radical Image Optimization Tool) v0.6.2 Updated

billon on 7 May 2019
  • 6MB (uncompressed)
  • Released on 7 May 2019
  • Suggested by ashghost

RIOT (Radical Image Optimization Tool) presents a before-and-after image compression view that allows you to reduce file size of an image into JPG, PNG, or GIF format. Includes optional metadata removal, batch operations, compression to a target file size, transparency options, and other common editing functions (flip, rotate, zoom, pan). Notable versus similar software in the ability to gradually reduce the available colors one-by-one (7, 8, 9, 10...), not just milestones of 16, 32, 64 etc.

The program is also available as a plugin for XnView, GIMP, or Irfanview (see website).

Functional in Linux using Wine. Many of the official entries here on PortableFreeware have used RIOT for compression. Note that the installer version of this program is considered adware.

  • Keep original file extension when saving files in batch.
  • Keep original file extension when saving files from the main window.
  • File extension filter when using the Save As dialog for less common JPEG extensions.
  • Render images after Auto resize dialog is discarded.
  • Multi-monitor issue: restore position only if the saved position would be inside the visible area.
  • Overriding settings in “Auto, Custom Format mode” did not switched the mode the Manual.
  • “Auto, Custom Format mode” blending transparency for JPEG format (white color used now by default instead of black, but should use the last chosen color).

@ MILKO: It was entered to the TPFC-database in January, 2007 ... so I won't call it a "new" program.
Maybe it's new to you ;)

I restored my win7 X64 computer to out-of-box state (pre sp1) and it still would not open the 64 bit xnconvert, so I'm guessing it needs the visual c++

Magibon on 2011-06-25 08:12

@ Zeke the Frog

Nope.. i installed Visual C++ on my system for Rainmeter.
still does not work for me.

i also tried adding the dependencies with no success.

Can't figure it out.
I just use the x32bit version.

v.1.75 portable - windows xp 32 SP3 - I get the following message which is : The procedure entry point GetLogicalProcessorInformation could not be located in the dynamic link library KERNEL32.dll
Previous versions until 1.74 worked fine.
XnConvert does not support XP anymore?
