portablefree on 2022-07-06 17:03

Updated to version 7.0 (2022-06-02, 2022, June, 2nd)

- Option for global CTRL+R shortcut key for rec/stop.
- Option for saving last position: If this option is not checked, the gifcam app will open in the center of the desktop.
- Auto-space between frames and delay labels regardless of system font size.
- Fixed Windows XP right click menu.
- Some other bug fixes.

Belatedly discovered a Gifcam quirk in the Win XP version...:-(
(XP buttons regrettably lack the side arrow ▼ included in Win7 version):

• Right-clicking "Rec" button opens a keyboard shortcuts list
• Right-clicking "Save" button opens an options + "about" list

ScreenToGif would be even better, if it was not for its unwieldy Net Framework 4.6.1 addiction
(2.5 GB of available hard disk space required).

For me, I'll stick with leaner, self-contained GifCam instead, thank you.

The editor for this program just gets better and better. I've really enjoyed seeing it's progress over time.

portablefree on 2022-07-06 16:54

Some interesting news:
- Updated to 2.37 2022, May, 1st
- Repackaged since 2.36 (see
"New installer and portable versions with the full package (no .NET 6 download required) are available alongside with the lighter versions, which still require the installation of .NET 6 desktop runtime."

So, now we can have either:
- a self contained "" at 67.7 MB
- or a minimal "" at 6.96 MB... but we need .NET 6 installed on the PC :)

I will try it now, for sure :)

KritaPortable_4.2.8.paf.exe from PortableApps automatically installs both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Krita:
32-bit PortableApps\KritaPortable\App\Krita
64-bit PortableApps\KritaPortable\App\Krita64

The disk size of the installed application is 636MB. The launcher program is KritaPortable.exe. It will detect the bit size of the Windows operating system and run the corresponding version of Krita. Those users that are confident that they will only need one bit size version can save disk storage by manually deleting the unneeded bit size.

@Stephen: thanks, billon updated the entry

Stephen Leibowitz on 2021-12-28 08:56

The Krita Portable package at includes the last 32-bit version (4.4.3) and the current 64-bit version (5.0.0). Not surprisingly, it can be placed on portable storage. When it is run, the wrapper chooses the Krita version that matches the bit size of the Windows OS. Users should be aware of file compatibility issues between the two Krita versions.

.kra is Krita’s internal file-format, which means that it is the file format that saves all of the features Krita can handle. .kra files saved in Krita 4 are upward compatible with Krita 5. But .kra files saved in Krita 5 are not downward compatible with Krita 4 or earlier.

The “What’s new?” link points to a history of release notes but does not yet include the 5.0 release. The 5.0 release notes are at These two items come from the 5.0 release notes:

Text size issues have been resolved (MR716)
Krita 5 now converts the font size into the correct value and this new value will be saved into the .kra file later. It means that this file will /no longer be compatible with older versions of Krita/.

Note on File Compatibility with Krita 4.x and Krita 3.x files
Krita 5.0 has an updated brush preset file format (.kpp). Krita 4 and earlier cannot use brush presets created in Krita 5.

Very seems to not run if an Explorer Window for the program folder is open...create a shortcut, place it somewhere else, close the open program folder, then run the shortcut, and all's well...?

Still working with Win10, but you have to create a shortcut with WinXP compatibility and move it elsewhere as described in the previous comment

quote @tc: You can stop the intro photo by editing photoscape.cfg, and turning intro.photoOn from on to off. You could also edit the url, to point to a local image

I installed on USB with 7zip.
In addition to tc's message: if you make photoscape.cfg read-only, it will keep it's settings in the cfg file.

I also deleted the plugins dir (unwanted toolbar in there), and renamed the file PSMsgHook.dll in the main folder to PSMsgHook.dllold.
