DesktopOK v11.47 Updated

Andrew Lee on 24 Nov 2024
  • 674KB (uncompressed)
  • Released on 21 Nov 2024
  • Suggested by JohnW

DesktopOK contains a host of beneficial Windows interface tweaks. The program can save the current icon view by resolution and make it easy to swap between views, showing all saved view formats in a list. Other tools include basic screenshots, the ability to force-close programs, color tool, volume and more:

  • Interface tools include reducing clutter with a minimize-to-tray by right clicking on a window close button, mouse hiding and ability to hide desktop icons after a period of inactivity (click on the desktop to make them re-appear). You can even modify default icon spacing.

  • Window management tools include scrolling any window that your mouse hovers over (not just what's in focus) and alt+drag (for moving windows without having to hold your cursor over the top bar).

I just need to say again, good god this has a ton of features. It's far from smooth or intuitive, but if you do a lot with screenshots, you should get acquainted with what this can do.

Tried it out, but was not impressed. Already had another free program called "Instant Photo Sketch" and its by far much better than this.

If you care to see the Instant Photo Sketch, its here http://www.snapfiles.com/get/iphotosketch.html

guinness on 2012-02-22 21:04

@Loner, the application you suggested isn't Portable! If you have a suggestion please post in the correct thread.

David Dollevoet on 2012-02-25 16:37

Tried it out and was disappointed. Better than many sketch programs, but still not satisfactory.
Thanks to Loner for recommending "Instant Photo Sketch". It is not portable, but it is by far the best sketch program in my experience.

quote @tc: You can stop the intro photo by editing photoscape.cfg, and turning intro.photoOn from on to off. You could also edit the url, to point to a local image

I installed on USB with 7zip.
In addition to tc's message: if you make photoscape.cfg read-only, it will keep it's settings in the cfg file.

I also deleted the plugins dir (unwanted toolbar in there), and renamed the file PSMsgHook.dll in the main folder to PSMsgHook.dllold.

Although I've moved over to freeware options for most things I do, I've maintained use of Microsoft Photo Manager for years when working on my own photo collection. Today however, I was on a machine without it so I got PhotoScape up and found I actually prefer it.

webfork on 2015-02-26 23:23

Every few months I discover something new and cool with this program.  Animated GIF tricks, photo edit functions, framing tricks, and photo collages. Today it was dragging and dropping an image onto the program icon and seeing the wealth of edition, annotation, and symbol tools available.
