Allows automatic or on-demand uploading to image hosting services or sending by email. Can grab images from multiple sources including webcams and scanners, including lots of scanner acquisition tools and image correction. Supports multiple monitors, is able to capture Windows 7/8 partial transparency effects, and has a powerful scrolling capture tool.

Has anyone tested recently if SC portability shortcomings are still extant?

ripu on 2015-02-18 09:00

@Midas I only tried the screenshot feature, and it did not create HKEY_CURRENT_USER\RtColorPicker or any other registry entry.

Midas on 2015-02-18 16:22

@ripu: thanks for reporting.

CintaNotes v3.6 Updated

billon on 24 Mar 2017
  • 8MB (uncompressed)
  • Released on 23 Mar 2017
  • Suggested by AlexJenter

CintaNotes is a tag-based, text-only personal notes manager for collecting bits and pieces of information such as thoughts and ideas, article excerpts, quotes, research, etc. A global hot key (by default Ctrl-F12) clips pieces of text from other applications such as web browsers or any local program. The window title becomes title/subject of the note and the highlighted text selected becomes the body.

The program is useful to quickly take down and tag any piece of useful text that you come across and quickly organize by date, keywords, title, link and note size. A search tool searches the entire database with search keyword highlighting.

Note: Some features limited to a "pro" version include tabbed sections, pasting notes into other apps, hierarchical tags, and multiple notebooks.

  • HTML export: regression – no spacing between paragraphs.
  • Editor:
    • Tab indents not lining up correctly;
    • Unwanted keyboard layout change upon paste.
  • Drag and drop: block keyboard while drag.

LibreOffice Portable v5.3.1 Updated

billon on 23 Mar 2017
  • 493MB (uncompressed)
  • Released on 22 Mar 2017
  • Suggested by JohnTHaller

LibreOffice is a complete productivity suite including word processor, spreadsheet, presentations, database, drawing tool, and more. Includes strong compatibility for 100s of file formats including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, etc). The program is similar to OpenOffice, a program that it was derived from, but has added many new features and improvements.

LibreOffice Portable is a special build developed in conjunction with the publisher. A "Still" version that's more tested and stable but with fewer features/capabilities is available via the website link. On systems without Java installed, some functions such as document creation wizards and the Base database application, etc. can be enabled by adding jPortable, though this is optional and can be skipped if those functions are not needed. Alternatively, X-LibreOffice is also available.

Cross platform with versions available for Mac, Linux/BSD (comes default with most distros), and supports a variety of extensions. A more stable "Still" version is available from the website link.

@ Mike.S.G.: Thanks ... and updated ;)

As many knows, LibreOffice Portable from PortableApps.com takes a long time to startup. On my system it takes 13 seconds from a fresh boot.
X-LibreOffice takes 4 seconds, from a fresh boot, so to all of You who
wants the portable version to start faster, use X-LibreOffice from WinPenPack.com.
Calc, Writer and the other stuff also loads faster with X-LibreOffice.

JohnTHaller on 2015-06-20 23:36

LibreOffice Portable is compressed using UPX to make it a lot smaller (268MB vs X-LO's 523MB for an English install) which also speeds up startup times from the vast majority of external drives. The tradeoff is that it will take a few extra seconds to start off an internal drive vs an uncompressed copy... 3 vs 5 seconds for a cold start on my machine.

Tested on Windows 10 64bit:
After closing Chrome and the PortableApps.com platform 13.0 I found files in this folder:
C:\Users\MyUserName\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data
AND in the registry I found settings in these keys:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Google\Chrome\PreReadFieldTrial
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Google\Chrome

There was a Crashpad issue causing the APPDATA directory to be left behind that was fixed in today's releases. I can't reproduce the others on any OS. Please post a complete bug report in the support forum here: http://portableapps.com/forums/support/other_apps We have hundreds of apps and bug reports as comments on another site often won't be seen and won't wind up being addressed, at least not in a timely manner.

@JohnTHaller: Thank you for the new release. Regarding the registry entries that are left behind I will post in the forum.
