Password Tech v3.2.0 Updated

billon on 27 Aug 2020
  • 7MB (uncompressed)
  • Released on 5 Aug 2020
  • Suggested by I am Baas

Password Tech (formerly PWGen) provides a variety of security tools including a strong random password and data file generator, master password tool, and a text encryption tool.

  • Random number generator - the program can create lists of random characters or pass-phrases from word lists and uses mouse/keyboard activity to gather more entropy. The program includes lots of features to make these passwords easy and conform to any security standard.

  • Master password - lets you create strong passwords using two words, usually a single password with it's destination, creating strong passwords for every site ("email" is unique from "network"). It's an easy way to avoid writing down your passwords but always having them available.

  • Text encryption - draws from any application that supports a text copy/paste to encode (using the cliboard).
For both encryption and password generation, the program uses an open, standard algorithm (AES 256).

@webfork
Why was Gaijin.at Password Generator removed from the database? I have just tested it and it seems to be really portable.

hi
could be corrected for the w7 users!

CornHolio the Gringo on 2020-08-28 22:02

I still use TrueCrypt-7.1a, the proven.

webfork on 2020-08-28 23:44

@CornHolio - In terms of security, TrueCrypt is probably more than adequate for 98% of users. It's still very hard for someone to get into your data. However, VeraCrypt likely works better with whole-disk security and has some speed improvements.

Although there are a variety of other ways to add a password to Office and ZIP files, there is no PDF encryption component (either read or write) in the free versions of PDF-XChange, Foxit, and Adobe Acrobat. As a result, this is a very nice addition for PDF users.

spicydog on 2017-01-21 12:37

Works fine for zip and pdf files but nothing happens on xls(x) and doc(x) files :(

Am I missing something?

webfork on 2017-01-22 20:34

@spicydog: there is a known bug with creating a read-only password, which is being explored by the author. However, I just recently tested view without issue, and had no issues with DOCX or ZIP files. Files were generated with Office 2010 and 7zip. Please post in forums (or on the github page) if you keep having issues.
