@JudyGarland: Have you tested on WinXP?  I ask because sometimes we list "system requirements / runs on" rather than "supported".  For example, a lot of tools here on the site were built before it came out, but we'll list Win10 if it's functional in testing.

JudyGarland on 2020-11-01 11:39

@webfork: I copy and paste from 'basic (system) requirements' section:
Windows Vista/7/8/10 or WINE to create the USB (Win 98/XP/2K WILL NOT Work!)
I'm able to 'run' it under XP though, but I have no idea if it actually 'works', either partially or totally.
Devs say it doesn't.

@JudyGarland: thanks for the additional detail. As usual, billon sorted it out.

Hi guys. I am a developer of this free tool. Let me clarify the 'hard drive' recovery. The software is able to restore accidentally deleted files from built-in hard disk drives as long as two the following conditions are met:

1. The file was deleted recently and no writing was made on the volume after that

2. Follows from 1. If you delete a file from a system volume (e.g. C:\), there are little chances to restore it because the OS is constantly writing on this volume (logs, registry branches, etc).

hudson on 2009-08-22 01:20

Excellent product. Recovered two files from flash memory. Simple and efficient, and no installation

Rolf on 2011-02-05 19:04

Odd The download says it is Version V1.2.0.0
but its size is 387KB. why? I have a 2009 copy
of V1.2.0.0 which is the correct size 272KB.
Andy can you explain. Looks a bit dodgy

Back4Sure v3.7.8

Ennovy on 19 Jan 2023
  • 6MB (uncompressed)
  • Released on 5 Jun 2022
  • Suggested by guinness

Back4Sure is a feature-rich backup solution for typical backup use. The program can make a backup to hard-disk, USB drive or network and can also be compressed using high or low compression settings to a ZIP or 7-zip file of various compression levels, as well as encrypted for security.

Other features include filters to backup or exclude specific file types, a cleanup mode to remove old archives, and creation of one or multiple zip files (separated by directory structure). Backups are saved by directory structure either inside the archive or inside the directory for easy restoring. Users can also use multiple settings profiles, or "job" files.

ihateyou on 2013-12-15 18:36

what you should know:
Cleanup is optional - it is very close related to an incremental backup.
Using this you have to select the same Target Directory as before to backup only changed files and to delete files on the backup that have been deleted on the original file system as well (the latter one is the actual Cleanup).

Hope it helps ;)

romulous on 2015-01-11 06:52

It's a crying shame that you can only backup folders with this tool, and not individual files within those folders (yes, I know you can set filters, but unless you know in advance what files you want from each folder, this is not practical to use).

My company, virusbusters, has used this program for over four years now with no issues. It has passed every antivirus scan of our systems and we run hundreds of them
The file is a zip file and opens in 7-zip and using windows XP compressed file explorer.

This program worked beautifully in testing an old external hard drive that was behaving strangely. Instead of relegating it to a secondary backup drive, it now looks to have plenty of life left.

- Control Panel > Hardware and Sounds > Autoplay.
- Everything is "Take No Action" and the checkbox up top is unchecked.

I tested this by plugging in my External USB HD and it did not autorun.
