If you close this program using the usual Windows red "X" in the top right corner, it will leave SPCleaner.exe running in Task Manager (and an inactive icon in system tray). Instead, you MUST pull down the file menu and choose exit to actually shut this program down. That's pretty rude going against Windows conventions.

Sounds nice. Does it have any advantages over CCleaner?

Pax on 2010-12-23 12:56

Haven't run the application yet but it looks like a good addition. Love the documentation on the site where the author details *exactly* what's cleaned out. It's rare to see that level of documentation and it's appreciated.

Looking over the site, this app also has a ridiculously easy to use plug-in system which the author hopes will spur user contributions and increase the number of apps and registry entries covered.

This one looks like one to keep an eye on.

I tested this by plugging in my External USB HD and it did not autorun.

Removing Flash cookies is not enough.
What about the HTML5 varieties, the Silverlight, the ETAgs, etc?

Midas on 2012-05-28 13:24

Nice find juvera. That Evercookie site seemed bent on making itself it own proof of concept -- as I have flash execution blocked, it tried (unsuccessfuly, alas) to spawn a new flash object every few seconds... (See http://minus.com/l5ecx3WJdYUWs)

From the app's version history:
Version 1.21 - Fixed bug: In some computers, when cleaning USB devices, the USB mouse/keyboard devices were also removed, and the user had to unplug and plug them again.

Indie on 2008-12-14 06:38

Thanks all.

After starting the system later during the day, it got logged in without asking for any password. Does it mean that the prog has got a copy of the pwd when enables an automatic log in considering the fact that some startup entries were removed and a new desktop startup entry was added (as per Spybot)?

webfork on 2010-10-05 18:31

I ran 3 other major cleaner programs here on the site (Bleechbit, CCleaner, and PureRA) and this program still found more to delete. If you're using an public computer, this seems to be THE program to run before you leave.

A completely useless program that gives you no information about the security threats it "detects" and no idea how to fix them. Skip this one.

T Monster on 2010-05-20 07:39

My virus scanner detected a downloader (coat.dll) which I assume is part of the test suite.

The application runs, with a small window of tests and vulnerable / passed status, but once run, you have no idea what each test means, and no summary that you can save (no good for audits!). So, apart from then googling for info on "OLE" (for example), then it does little to help apart from cause more worry...

Next please...

Lara on 2010-10-10 23:51

This gives lots of info and comparing options. False virus alerts are explainable!
You can generate a html result/report with some help.
I've used the app on several systems running xp3 vista2 with diff. firewall and hips settings. If you're smart you must try this one to give you an idea of your safety/security. Thanks Comodo
