it worked fine for the gen1 nano.

BGM on 2016-11-14 16:48

I have to set up an iPod Nano for somebody and load song files onto it, but I don't want to install iTunes on my computer at all. When I start YamiPod it says, "Please plug in your iPod to continue". I tried both the USB2 and USB3 ports on my computer to no avail. I read pertaining questions in their forum but noone every received any answers. Apparently, Floola is written by the authour of YamiPod and Floola is still in development. Conclusion: this doesn't work for me.

webfork on 2016-11-15 03:01

@BGM: it didn't used to require iTunes but newer devices were encoded to use only iTunes software. This program is listed on our site mainly for use with early iPod generations (many of which still work fine).

CyberShredder v1.12

webfork on 20 Dec 2016
  • 490KB (uncompressed)
  • Released on 20 Sep 2008
  • Suggested by M. Maltbia

CyberShredder is an easy to use, drag-and-drop way to delete files and folders from your computer permanently. While normal file deletion remove a file's directory entry and allocation table information, the actual disk clusters that contained the file's data remains intact on your hard disk and can be recovered. CyberShredder overwrites the space occupied from a file with random data and then erases the file, so recovery tools cannot recover it.

Although the "very quick" shred should be more than adequate for most users, there are multi-pass methods available that overwrite the file multiple times.

Warning: Some users have reported issues when wiping directories with non-English characters in them.

Category:
Runs on:Win95 / Win98 / WinME / WinNT / Win2K / WinXP / Vista / Win7
Writes settings to: Application folder
Stealth: ? Yes
Unicode support: No
License: Freeware
How to extract: Download the ZIP package and extract to a folder of your choice. Launch CyberShredder.exe.
What's new?
  • Quicker abort, abandons operation even at the end of a file operation.
  • File operation progress gauge, shows progress of each file operation (pass).
  • Renames file multiple (26) times, not just once.
  • Remembers form position.

A possible portable alternative (untested!) is Quick Erase -- see http://www.softpedia.com/get/Security/Secure-cleaning/Quick-Erase.shtml.

hamasaki on 2013-11-11 12:03

@webfork. Sorry, only just saw this post. I don`t have a copy of that folder anymore as I`ve moved to a new laptop. Sorry.

Herki on 2014-06-18 12:57

I had precisely the same issue as hamasaki above - tried to drag and drop a folder that contained asian characters in its name and, to my horror, found Cybershredder began a rampage through a completely unrelated area of my hard drive.

From what I can tell, and this tallies with hamasaki's experience *if* he had placed the cybershredder.exe in 'program files', the glitch redirects the shred request to contents of the the folder one level above the folder in which cybershredder.exe is placed.

No idea why this happens, but be warned!

Perfect for audiophiles that want to know exactly what kind of quality they have. If you know the difference between xing (crap) and LAME (good) encoders, this program is essential.

Also great for looking at duplicate files to see which one you should keep - file size isn't always the best indicator to quality.

Don't know your formats (ogg, flac, wma, mp4, etc?)? This program can help educate you.

abc on 2012-02-06 16:50

Browsing files and displaying is tons faster than Encspot Pro. the downside is that information displayed is limited e.g. "Not yet implemented" messages if you choose to customize the columns. Apparently this had licensing issues and the author decided to cease development. It was based on Mr QuestionMan

Excellent additional tool for eBay users but very unintuitive. Having a screen resolution ABOVE 1024x768 is a big help but the developer appears to have tried to fit too much into too little space. The tool is useful as it allows tracking eBay items' actual time left and current (to the second) costs. Searching only pulls up items that will end soon so you generally see the price you're going to get if you actually bid, for which you will need to independantly use your Web browser as well (unless you get the registered version).

If you frequently use eBay, this is a must-try, if only to see what's possible. Purportedly an ebay Firefox plugin is on the way to do something similar.

xyz on 2007-07-24 13:22

Perfect! Exactly what I was looking for:
This software will search for newly listed items and alarm me as soon as they appear. Made a few bargains already...

You do realise eBay has made thier own version of this called ebay desktop. I know it isnt portable, but has a lot of eye candy.

Pandora Recovery v1.4

webfork on 24 Aug 2014
  • 4MB (uncompressed)
  • Released on
  • Suggested by Andrew Lee

Pandora Recovery helps to recover permanently deleted files that cannot be found in the Recycle Bin. The program works with NTFS, NTFS5 and NTFS/EFS partitions. You can preview deleted files of certain type (images and text files) without performing recovery. A deep cluster scan mode is also available that is able to recover files whose MFT record has been overwritten, or when the file allocation table is missing or corrupted. In addition, Pandora Recovery supports recovery of archived, hidden, system, sparse, encrypted and compressed files, as well as ADS (Alternate Data Streams).

The program will ask you to fill up a survey upon exit when you run it for the first time, which you can skip by clicking the "Close" button.

Note: Latest version of this program is ad-supported and has not been tested for portability. A mirror for the 1.4 version has been contributed post in forums (thanks NickR).

Category:
Runs on:Win2K / WinXP / Vista
Writes settings to: User profile folder. I am accepting this as portable because I am assuming it will be used on rare occasions when data recovery is more important than having portable settings.

Why do you post non-portable software on your website?

webfork on 2014-08-20 00:12

zylstra: Sometimes the developer makes changes to their program that aren't free or portable, which we of course don't have any control over. In the case of Pandora, we tried to find a mirror or host for the old version without success.
