It seems that with v4.2.0 it now phone home no matter what on every startup, 4.1.8 didn't do this and yes, the option "Check for updates on startup" is disabled.

To my understanding, the last compatible version for XP is 4.5.0.56

I agree to merge the two, but malikorx69's should be first!

CrystalDiskinfo should not be listed under Similar/alternative apps for CrystalDiskMark. CrystalLDiskMark benchmarks, whereas CrystalDiskinfo supplies a lot of disk information, but does NOT benchmark.

webfork on 2019-10-07 21:39

A remarkable number of commercial disks are benchmarked using this tool. It's a must-have for comparing hardware performance.

Is the description of "How to extract" still valid? I ask because a lot has changed with the structure of directories and files.

Andrew Lee on 2023-06-02 09:04

@dmocha: I just downloaded the ZIP file for v9.0.1, and it seems the file/dir structure is still pretty much the same, so the extraction instruction should still be valid. Could you provide details on the diffs that you are seeing?

dmocha on 2023-06-04 08:20

@Andrew Lee: I have no objections. I'm just asking. I remember that quite a long time ago new folders and files arrived, and the procedure is still the same. That's why I'm wondering if it's up to date with these files.
I still follow this procedure and still use the portable version.

WinContig v5.0.2.1 Updated

Andrew Lee on 6 Feb 2024
  • 4MB (uncompressed)
  • Released on 3 Feb 2024
  • Suggested by MarcoNovaro

WinContig is an easy-to-use file defragmentation program that allows defrag of parts of the drive. This is useful for squeezing extra performance out of important or frequently used files or programs without wasting time and energy cleaning up the rest of the drive.

Note that this is recommended only on magnetic disks. Flash-based drives (SSDs and thumb drives) don't benefit from defragmentation and such maintenance tools can reduce the life of the drive.

The program engine is based on the standard Microsoft defragmentation API and allows you to group files into profiles, accepting a number of available command-line switches for additional control.
