AllDup removes duplicate files from one or multiple directories and includes a preview function using Windows own tools (IE, MediaPlayer and WordPad). Can find duplicates by file name, file extension, file content, file dates, file attributes. The program can also help identify and remove music and or image files that are not only slightly different.
Multiple files, directories, and drives can all be scanned, as well as ZIP or RAR archives (with an optional file size limit), along with filters for file types and/or folders.

It seems that with v4.2.0 it now phone home no matter what on every startup, 4.1.8 didn't do this and yes, the option "Check for updates on startup" is disabled.

v3.4.6
At least three places on their site, they call it freeware, including the phrase "Freeware for private and commercial use" (http://www.alldup.de/en_alldup.htm)
On the other hand AllSync, from the same company, is time-limited shareware--perhaps Lee got the two confused?
It's not freeware. It's a time-limited demo.
Not as simple and clean as other duplicate checkers so I was a little intimidated. But the file preview option really grabbed me: this is a powerful way to track down duplicate files.
