...sorry, my previous comment only applies to the stable version 1.4.7 - changing "HKCU\Software\QtProject.." to "HKCU\Software\Trolltech.." in "ScribusPortable.ini" does it.
The test version (1.5.4) is stealth out of the box.

Scribus 1.5.8 released See https://www.scribus.net/scribus-1-5-8-released/
" The Scribus Team is pleased to announce the release of version 1.5.8. Like previous releases, work on version 1.5.8 focused mostly on bugfixes and code optimizations, the latter of which are expected to lead to reliability and speed improvements. We have also begun to prepare Scribus for using Qt6, which will make our work easier for future releases. "

I am not sure this release i portable, since itis not a "paf" file.

Yep, but download links still work (not for long?).

This is a fantastic piece of software.
Opens all kinds of documents and some spreadsheets, disassembles CHMs and PDFs and exports PDFs. Besides spell-checking for whatever language one can find dictionaries, its command of tables confers an almost total freedom of layout for one's texts and images.
It accepts a raster image as background of the pages; with pages setup in landscape it allows the creation of PDF presentations!
One may supplement it with tiny Fotografix which supports layers and does gradients; also a smallish spreadsheet like Spread32 under PStart (all in this site) and then one has a portable micro office that fits in the tiniest memory card.

"..the program can import PDF file"

No, it can't/doesn't, under Import, it only has tmd/rft/text/text unicode options only.

I guess this is a PDF *creator* and not editor... useful to create a PDF from scratch but can not edit existing ones...

Nate on 2010-03-24 18:14

It shouldn't be included in as a PDF editor.
All it is is a rich text editor that 'prints to PDF'.

robzuc on 2015-07-14 08:59

As in 2010 year comments, this is not a real editor: it just can't open any pdf file.
