I use it since W98. Very easy copy/paste/crop/resize/scan/print/sharpness and many other things.
Dont have a pen/filler. Not a full img editor but very easy and has many options.
Fully work is done with xnview, mspaint(for pen) and PaintDotNet for layers.(except for the layers that xnview does not have, everything is easier with xnview)

JudyGarland on 2020-10-22 05:38

XnView is not Windows XP compatible anymore. In order to make it work with XP, replace libwebp.dll (plugin folder) with with webp.dll (xnview.com/download/plugins/webp.zip).
cheers

The PDF Plugin is great! So far, I have converted PDFs to images, and vice-versa, stiched together and split PDFs (one colleague had a poster-sized image composed of 14 pages), and more. It can also do thumbnails.

Using only Irfanview with the PDF Plugin, for example, I went to archive.org, used Irfanview's fixed screen rectangle capture to 'scan' and old book direct to PDF, and clean up the yellowed pages.

While PDF-XChange Editor is still the better product for annotation, OCR, etc., I recommend looking at Irfanview for PDF.

Cornflower on 2022-12-10 07:45

Just to note that the direct download links point to version 4.60. The home website (www.irfanview.com) has the link to version 4.62 Irfanview and the plugins. Note that there is no 32-bit Irfanview in zip format, but I verified that uniextract works.

Note: New features in this version, especially if you use the Irfanview PlugIn

Andrew Lee on 2022-12-11 05:23

@Cornflower: Seems like the 32-bit ZIP is also available now. I have updated both download links.

FYI, older versions still available, check forum topic.

g3ose on 2019-04-17 18:14

it is version 7.0 right now, is portable and free
great viewer, fast and lite. some good lossless transformations
use it as is, support is dead.
take care, thumbnail database is not big enough, optimisation of thumbnail database will clear most thumbs. resizing thumbnails will clear all database so using Tag section is completly useless. (tags are saved on thumbnail database)
Still one of top 3 in my image viewers.
it use SageThumbs https://sourceforge.net/projects/sagethumbs/
to manage .eps files

gcb43 on 2022-04-04 12:55

I fully agree with Miklo, having used FastStone for several years, I really like it: does everything I want almost intuitively.I still use version 6.4 . Tried to use the last version 7.6 but reversed to the previous one because in the last release there is a bug in the Multi-Page File Builder to created an Animated GIF (Alt+M):. the resulting GIF file shows only the first 2 loaded images then stops.

TP109 on 2022-03-23 09:16

Great tool for managing image files. It has a well-designed, simple, and intuitive interface that makes it easy to organize, move, rename, archive, rotate, print, and edit images. Not as comprehensive as many other similar/alternative apps on this site, but highly useful for the specialized image management tasks that it's designed for.

I've done this, but I still get the "Register Now" nag. Pressing clears the nag, but it's awfully irritating. Is there a way of disabling it?

Fergus on 2010-09-29 19:46

OK managed to get a register code; use it once and hey presto away you go. BUT the code is written o a local gsview.ini which also incorporates named drive letters. Move your USB stick to another host machine where it will very likely be named differently and gsview.ini is suddenly broken -- you have to supply the reg code again. Very VERY annoying; not true portable freeware, at all ...

Ascend4nt on 2012-01-24 22:37

Setup is a bit more tricky then running a self-extracting executable, and dumping Ghostscript in the same folder. Here's what I had to do:
1. Download the GSView self-extracting exe and the associated Ghostscript exe
2. Open the GSView self-extracting exe with 7-zip or other archive software and extract everything except the files indicated in 'How to Extract'. (RUNNING the exe will install a non-portable version!!)
3. Create a 'gs9.04' subfolder in the folder that GSviewPortable is in. (it seems the name is usually 'gs' followed by the version #).
4. Open the Ghostscript exe with an archive utility, go to $_OUTDIR, and extract all the files from that folder into the subfolder just created (in this case, gs9.04)
5. Now you can run GSviewPortable

*Note: I can verify what Fergus says - Registration screen pops up on run. Not a huge deal for me
