I used to be very happy with this program until I found out that decryption wouldn't work with certain combination of file + password. Now I'm usig dscrypt instead. Worked like a charm so far.

Ikd999, which file would it not work with? i use picocrypt which is small & works , and also i use dscrypt as well. I haven't had problems with either program. (i must admit though, dscrypt is a friendly app to use.)

Why do I have to put in my password so many times? PicoCrypt fails.

Works like an encrypted archive file with one main feature - if you type in the wrong password more than three times, your data is gone forever!

Crypditor v1.21

webfork on 2 Nov 2016

Crypditor is a tabbed text editor that encrypts what you write. It is designed to store sensitive information such as PINs, serial numbers, passwords etc. The encrypted data is stored together with the EXE file itself, so launching the program will load the information directly after entering password.

Uses the AES encryption algorithm.

Not if you make changes and save with a password.

Angkor on 2007-08-21 04:18

The advantage of Crypditor: it can handle more than one textfile. And it works with Vista.

infestedtassadar-x17 on 2008-12-27 22:26

This program saved a few of my documents to plane text (document was saved at the end of the file.) Not sure if I am just using a password that's too long. Check it with Notepad++

fsekrit is a good program also but doesn't have tabbing

ExcelPass 1.7.3.8

webfork on 4 Aug 2018
  • 4MB (uncompressed)
  • Released on 19 Feb 2017
  • Suggested by I am Baas

ExcelPass easily adds password protection to Word, PowerPoint, Excel, PDF and ZIP files. The program supports drag-and-drop and can quickly encode one or more files to use standard security, meaning it can be opened by compatible viewers and editors, including Microsoft Office, LibreOffice, Adobe Acrobat, and many more. Both read and write protection are available (excluding ZIP files, which do not support write restrictions).

The program can also disable security via the same interface (click the unlock button). Functional in 64-bit.

NOTE: May not work with more recent versions of Windows 10.

Runs on:WinXP / Vista / Win7 / Win8 / Win10
Writes settings to: None
Dependencies: dotNET 4.0
License: MIT (source)
How to extract: Download the "no-installer" 7z package and extract to a folder of your choice using a program like PeaExtractor. Launch ExcelPass.exe.

Although there are a variety of other ways to add a password to Office and ZIP files, there is no PDF encryption component (either read or write) in the free versions of PDF-XChange, Foxit, and Adobe Acrobat. As a result, this is a very nice addition for PDF users.

spicydog on 2017-01-21 12:37

Works fine for zip and pdf files but nothing happens on xls(x) and doc(x) files :(

Am I missing something?

webfork on 2017-01-22 20:34

@spicydog: there is a known bug with creating a read-only password, which is being explored by the author. However, I just recently tested view without issue, and had no issues with DOCX or ZIP files. Files were generated with Office 2010 and 7zip. Please post in forums (or on the github page) if you keep having issues.

Does not seem to decrypt properly when using blowfish. I am unsure if it is the encrypt of decrypt side that is causing the issue. RC4 encryption works perfectly.

kiest on 2010-07-23 02:51

Does not encrypt/decrypt properly with all methods, but RC4 works fine. When CompressData is enabled, the decrypted file is smaller sized. When CompressData is disabled, the decrypted file seems to be the correct size but it is not the original file (checksum mismatch/content unreadable).

The website is live but no longer carries SteganoG, It can be downloaded at Softpedia.
