FastCopy is a file copy and synchronization tool with a variety of available extras. It uses different strategies (multi-threading, buffering) to help ensure maximum device throughput, as well as optional verification to make sure data is transferred correctly. It does not use the system cache, so other processes do not get bogged down during the copy process and a speed setting is also available, including pause. It supports Unix-style include/exclude wildcards filters.
Alternatively, PortableApps.com packages the last open source version as FastCopy Portable.

5.7.5 is the last version that works on Windows XP. It's available from the fcpyPortable homepage on PortableApps.com. |
TeraCopy lets you copy or move files at the maximum possible speed. It uses dynamically adjusted buffers to reduce seek times, as well as asynchronous copy to speed up file transfers between two physical hard drives. When an error is encountered during copying/moving, TeraCopy will automatically retry and skip the files that cannot be transferred instead of aborting the entire operation. It also shows failed file transfers and lets you recopy only problem files.
Once the destination directory is selected, files can be dragged-and-dropped onto the window, even while a transfer is in progress. Once files are transferred, the Verify option uses a hash check to see if files are identical.
Note that a Pro version of the program is available with additional features.

Am I wrong or is there is no "Portable version" available anymore with Release v3.9?

A ZIP version is available for v3.8.5, but not for v3.9. And Universal Extractor is unable to extract files from the installer. So I suspect the only way is to install, copy then uninstall for v3.9.

You can run "teracopy.exe /extract" to get the contents of the installer without installing. |
CopyToTabs uses "Backup Projects" that either you create manually, or are automatically created (with Total Commander's help) in order to copy several files/directories to any number of destinations.

Although it has a somewhat confusing interface, once learned, it's been the most reliable and easy-to-setup program I've used of this type. Perfect for copying/updating files to multiple directories that are all over the place.

USBFlashCopy backs up/synchronizes from external storage on the fly. The program runs in the background and copies all or select files from inserted media to a destination of your choice. Includes available copy throttle speed, minimum free space check to avoid filling up your drive, file filters, and can even be set to only copy from selected drives (by serial number).
New drives plugged in are prompted for a new copy profile and transfers include a progress bar. Ideal for people who do much of their work on remote computers and need to automate the process of backing up their files.
Functional in 64-bit. Note that fully transparent operations (no user notification; runs entirely in background) are only available in the registered version.

I can never get this to work. I have to two USB drives plugged in all the time, drives q and z, but the software says no removeable media found. |
XCOPY Frontend gives easy control over the process of copying multiple files or an entire directory tree from one place to another or over a network. As the name suggests, the program creates an interface for the native Windows XCOPY command. The program shows an overview of all available options and parameters, making it easy to customize the needed elements for a given process..
XCOPY commands created with the program can be run within the program or copied for use in other system batch files / automation.
You can also paste an existing XCOPY command into the program to customize, modify, or run.

Encopy rescues data from damaged media when standard system copy fails, freezes and or rejects the media. In cases where it is not possible to perform a full recovery, Encopy will try to copy as much data as possible from the damaged files.
Great for use in getting whatever data off a scratched CD or DVD whose copy would otherwise give up on a read error.

If you missed the bright red "Adware" tag at the top of this post (like I did), you might like to know that I tried to go to the website hxxp://www[dot]winmend.com/file-copy/ in Firefox and got a Google Safe Browser warning. |
File Replicator is a batch file search-and-replace that lets you modify all instances of a file in a destination directory or drive without having to manually search. For example, if 7-zip.exe is a component of many programs in your portable collection, you can enable the latest-and-greatest version added to all of them. Simply select the destination to search (e.g. USB drive letter) and the file you wish to replace. From there it will search the drive and show a list of successful files found and ask if you wish to overwrite.

Roadkil's Unstoppable Copier allows you to copy files from disks and CDs with problems such as bad sectors, scratches or that just give errors when reading data. The program will attempt to recover every readable piece of a file and put them back together. Using this method, most types of files can be made usable even if some parts were not recoverable in the end.
See the website for earlier versions that support Win9x through NT.

I just discovered that despite what I said earlier, you can copy a single file. This is a must-have utility for rescuing DVD's with CRC errors, among other things.

Way more informative than the standard copy. For a 20 GB file copied over a slow USB 1.0 - 12 mbps connection, a simple progress bar won't do. Microslop should take note.
