Lock State provides a simple, and customizable, on screen display in the lower right corner of the desktop to show the states of the NumLock, CapsLock and ScrollLock keys. Lock State can also lock the keys into their current states, so even if a lock key is pressed its state will not change. States can even be saved between sessions, so all states will be restored to what they were the last time Lock State was running.

For earlier operating systems that lack a built-in on-screen keyboard (Windows 95/98/Me) it includes a simple virtual keyboard that, while lighter on accessibility features, is still useful.

luojie, Are you sure you have the correct French Language Pack installed on you portable device, as described in the "Special considerations for Click-N-Type Portable:" section at http://cnt.lakefolks.com/portable.htm ? There are several for different countries. Also, be sure the correct Input Language has been installed in Windows, and is being used by the current target window. Address questions to Click-N-Type@LakeFolks.com .

Very useful application for those versed with the iPhone shortcut as suggested by the developer. For those who are not so familiar, it will be provide less typing than ordinarily supplying a period, space and a capital. Shellfish is an on-screen virtual keyboard that is designed to get around programs that monitor your keyboard (keyloggers). It supports transparency and three different paste methods to help confuse these programs, especially useful when entering passwords or other crucial data.

What is the "Control Send" method? This mode works now but where is this info being stored? (Where does it need to be deleted?)

Author of Shellfish on 2007-07-23 18:01

ControlSend uses the AutoIt ControlSend function. ControlSend sends keystrokes to a certian control. It probably will not be detected by a keylogger but it might.

Is somebody pulling our leg here? This program version is almost 2 and a half years old (July 2007)! "Direct paste" (never heard about anything like that) doesn't work at all. Obviously not worth even downloading, pure waste of time...

Xpadder v2008.1

  • Suggested by Fluffy

Xpadder assigns keystrokes to your gamepad, giving you the ability to use your gamepad with any application you want (including older games with poor or no gamepad support such as DOS games). It also supports multiple gamepads, so playing multiplayer games with individual gamepads is a breeze. Combine this program's powerful features with its intuitive design and the result is an application that no one owning a gamepad should be without.

Note: the program has gone payware. Linking to the last freeware version (thanks Napiophelios).

Category:
Runs on:Win98 / WinME / Win2K / WinXP / Vista
Writes settings to: Application folder, though some editing of the .ini file is necessary for complete portability.
Path portability: Requires manual entry of relative path (eg. ..\..\personal\work.doc)
License: Free for personal use
How to extract:
  1. Download the zip package and extract to a folder of your choice
  2. Launch XPadder.exe
  3. Close the application
  4. Open a text editor and edit the Xpadder.ini file located in the application folder
  5. Replace all paths with relative equivalents

Note that this will also be necessary if new controllers are added, as recent controllers and multiple controllers will be saved with absolute paths. Hopefully in a future version relative paths can be an optional default.

I was able to download version 4.0.321, but didn't find it useful (just wanted something to help me type the musical note character)...

Onesimus Prime on 2010-05-13 05:51

Version 5 (now the default download) is no longer portable. On Vista, it writes its XML config files to %AppData% (not even a subfolder, but directly in %AppData%!)

@Cattleya: probably because latest version was released in 2007 -- but since it is GPLed, feel free to update it, if you can... ;)
