Synopsis: Server2Go is a portable web application server that comprises of Apache + PHP, SQLite, MySQL and Perl. You can use it as a portable web development environment, or to distribute standalone web applications that runs directly from CDROMs.

How to extract: Download the ZIP package and extract to a folder of your choice. There are different packages available with various combinations of Apache, MySQL, SQLite and Perl to choose from. Launch the program by double-clicking on Server2Go.exe. The web browser will be launched that defaults to the server home page. Closing the browser will automatically shutdown the server as well.

Synopsis: The Uniform Server is a complete web development system on the move. It contains Apache, PHP, MySQL and Perl. There are additional plugins that you can download at the website that will extend the system with FTP server and Java servlet support.

Synopsis: XAMPP is an integrated server package that contains Apache, MySQL, FileZilla, PHP, Perl, etc. A smaller version called XAMPP-Lite is also available that takes up less disk space, but has fewer components.

Note: Its also possible to set up a portable MediaWiki server on XAMPP.

How to extract:
  1. Download the ZIP or self-extracting EXE and extract to a folder of your choice. With the EXE version, the configuration window will appear automatically. With the ZIP version, launch setup_xampp.bat to configure.
  2. At the prompts, enter "n" to adding shorcuts to the desktop, "y" to relocate directories, and "y" to make portable.
  3. Finally, start the different servers with the corresponding start/stop batch files, or launch xampp-control.exe to run the GUI control panel.

Synopsis: HFS (HTTP File Server) is a great tool for sharing files. Once the server is up and running, the administrator simply adds files to be shared via drag and drop. Users wishing to download the shared files go to the specified IP address/domain where HFS is hosted via their favorite web browser. They will then be presented with an easy to navigate web page that lists all the available files that can be downloaded.

Other features include uploading, speed limits, and IP bans.
