I really like this simple program. I used it first to hide/disable a corrupted Magic ISO contextual menu in mere seconds. Then later on I learned about some features of Explorer that could be turned off using this program, so I did that. It worked both times without any problems. I like that you can undo the changes too if you like. Good program. Thanks for updating this.

rogerthedodger on 2013-06-01 00:37

Love this program, recently had the dreaded explorer crash and this program allowed me to easily identify the culprit, and a uninstall/reinstall of the offending (acronis) software fixed my issue. Would have spent an eternity without this software. Should be part of Windoze.

RIOT (Radical Image Optimization Tool) v0.6.2

billon on 7 May 2019
  • 6MB (uncompressed)
  • Released on 7 May 2019
  • Suggested by ashghost

RIOT (Radical Image Optimization Tool) presents a before-and-after image compression view that allows you to reduce file size of an image into JPG, PNG, or GIF format. Includes optional metadata removal, batch operations, compression to a target file size, transparency options, and other common editing functions (flip, rotate, zoom, pan). Notable versus similar software in the ability to gradually reduce the available colors one-by-one (7, 8, 9, 10...), not just milestones of 16, 32, 64 etc.

The program is also available as a plugin for XnView, GIMP, or Irfanview (see website).

Functional in Linux using Wine. Many of the official entries here on PortableFreeware have used RIOT for compression. Note that the installer version of this program is considered adware.

What's new? Added:
  • Minimum compression setting to PNG (zlib level 1). This is useful for using with an external optimizer or reducing colors before final compression.
  • PNG compression settings “minimum” and “low” are always remembered upon program restart if save settings on exit is enabled.
Changed:
  • Improved check for updates procedure. Now enabled by default. Does not create temporary files anymore.
Fixed:
  • Clipboard lock.
  • Keep original date/time if in-place optimization.
  • Prevent delete of original if in-place optimization and “Delete original files” are used.
  • Keep original file extension when saving files in batch.
  • Keep original file extension when saving files from the main window.
  • File extension filter when using the Save As dialog for less common JPEG extensions.
  • Render images after Auto resize dialog is discarded.
  • Multi-monitor issue: restore position only if the saved position would be inside the visible area.
  • Overriding settings in “Auto, Custom Format mode” did not switched the mode the Manual.
  • “Auto, Custom Format mode” blending transparency for JPEG format (white color used now by default instead of black, but should use the last chosen color).

I am wrong Defender is still deleting anyburn.exe 4.4, but 4.3 seems to work ok, Going back to 4.3, just so I do not have to add exclusions for each copy of anyburn.

PAFuser on 2019-04-25 09:41

Defender does not like 4.5 either. Tried 32 and 64 bit, neither will run. Standing with 4.3 64-bit.

webfork on 2019-04-26 21:13

@PAFuser - I'd recommend running it past VirusTotal rather than relying on Defender. It's very likely a false positive.
