Tiny file size and very-functional download manager.

Great to use for servers that limit download speeds to a low KB/s.

My only tiny nitpick is probably to change the default download parts from 1 to 2 or maybe 4. Other than that, thumbs up!

Oh man, you are my hero.
Today I spent an hour looking for some small and portable downloader. Found noting and here you are. =)

Free Download Manager v3.9.7 build 1641

Free Download Manager (FDM) is a feature-rich tool for handling and accelerating downloads. Includes a site explorer, offline website downloader, scheduler, video downloader (YouTube, Google Video etc.), BitTorrent support and more. An included media file preview prevents downloading mislabeled music or video while a ZIP file preview tool saves download time and bandwidth by selectively removing unneeded parts. A hash check capability can verify downloads and the program can be controlled remotely over the Internet (fdmwi.exe).

Especially useful to overcome unreliable/slow connections that require frequent download restarts, when bandwidth is at a premium, or for very large files.

Alternatively, Free Download Manager Portable is available, as well as a "lite" version, which has not been tested for portability.

NOTE: The program will now prompt for upgrade to the newest version on startup, which is not portable (thanks Joby) and uses a closed-source license.

Category:
Runs on:WinXP / Vista / Win7 / Win8 / Win10
Writes settings to: Application folder. It writes some values to the registry, but these are not related to any user settings.
Dependencies: WinXP: requires Service Pack 3 or above

Unicode support: Yes
License: GPL
How to extract:
  1. Download the installer (v3.9.7) and install to the default folder

Love this program particularly for infrequent or bad internet connections. Helps restart, resume, and find the best connections for downloads. I also use it for the occasional Linux or other big file distribution torrent.

Windows 10 , TVideoDownloader 2.0.2.518 for x64
Hmm...
Whenever I Add a url link
program returns a message "adding given URL"
and then when I press Download
up pops an error window with
"Please add links first ".
Any fix for this ?
Thanks

Midas on 2018-12-31 08:50

@vmars: I have no clue on your problem but, as TVideoDownloader is only a GUI frontend to youtube-dl, ffmpeg and some other CLI tools, you could try updating those. YMMV.

@juverax: have you tested it? It works alright from here.

juverax on 2021-01-14 22:16

@Midas
It works perfectly, though I did not test it thoroughly.
I like the "good old look and feel" from the Win98, Win2K era, but the usability ... could be better.

Incorrectly downloads files bigger than 4 GB. For example, if you have 5 GB file, it downloads only some 1 GB. And the speed isn't that fast. I think, that's why the author discontinued it.

PortableApps.com has a portable WackGet v1.2.4 Rev 2 download (at http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/wackget-portable).

Regarding vanilla WackGet v1.2.4, the following was later posted at the URL mentioned by ZoNi:

"Update 2012-10-08: A user has reported a bug in this version where pausing and resuming files after around the 6GB mark does not work. I have reproduced this and have confirmed it is a problem in the included version of wget.exe. Unfortunately the wget executable can not just be replaced so it is a bit of work to fix this problem."

It's a real pity, because otherwise we could just switch to Ken Yeo's updated wget binaries (for info, see http://www.portablefreeware.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=20900).

This is actually a pretty neat download manager for its size. I removed a lot of the columns to make it more like a download manager and less like a timed download app.

A good backup when I'm not using Opera or Firefox with DownThemAll.
