Isn't the "Right Click Menu" integration added in version 4.0 basically incompatible with the concept of portable applications? Does this upgrade have other effects on the registry that impact/break the portability enjoyed by previous versions?

SecurityXploded on 2010-10-18 08:18

@Jimmy

'Right Click Menu' is for the list box within the application unlike the Explorer right click context menu. So no issues with portability.

Like earlier versions, it always store settings to the ini file in the same location as exe file. No read/write to the registry is performed.

The program contains startup controls for Windows, major internet browsers, and context menu entries. A 64-bit version is available (within the folder). Monitoring functions are only available in the pro version.

An unofficial set of community developed cleaning rules can be found here however it should be noted that many of these rules are alpha and the developers will not provide support for these rules, a thread in the users forum is dedicated to supporting the add-on rules.

Nope works great with resize window in 64bit.
But GUI is terrible !! Hope we can switc back to good 7 style in future!!

Napiophelios on 2014-11-26 17:04

well I am using a little Asus netbook and I have never had it act like this before this update.

I imagine the tiles arent resizable so they have to have so much room to look pretty I guess

it still sucks
even if its just happening to me :)

joby_toss on 2014-11-26 17:58

@Naphiopelios: no, my friend, you're not alone in this. I'm also having trouble with CCleaner's maximized state. Because of my PowerPro bar, CCleaner's window goes off-screen. I do consider this a bug, because none of my other apps behave like this, not even CCleaner version 4.

it creates a folder empty c:\Users\User\AppData\Roaming\picpick\
under windows 7 64bit

@giulia
Confirmed and updated the entry. Thanks. I no longer use this application... not sure when this was introduced. Best is to email the developer to fix that.

shodan816 on 2014-01-16 19:02

@giulia - if you are referring to the "creates an empty folder under C:\users\...etc," this began following V3.2.6. I have written to the author and asked that he allow the executable to search the main program folder for the app's INI file instead of insisting it be created under the User folder, but so far my request has fallen of deaf ears. I stick with V3.2.6 because I work on client PC's and they are not fond of my creating either registry entries or files and folders on their machines. If more people requested this slight change, I'm sure the author would listen.

PDF-XChange Viewer v2.5.311.0 Updated

Midas on 30 Oct 2014
  • 19MB (uncompressed)
  • Suggested by Myles

PDF-XChange Viewer is a feature-rich program that displays multiple PDF documents within a tabbed interface. Edit features include the ability to rotate documents, add comments/annotations to any PDF file, apply custom stamps from any image/PDF file/Windows clipboard, mark-up pages with text and objects, and type directly on any PDF page in "Typewriter" mode. The program supports exporting to BMP/JPEG/TIFF/PNG etc., or extracting text from a PDF page/file. Additional features include capturing the document with the snapshot tool (copies an area to clipboard), measuring tools for distance, area, and perimeter, and more. A recommended picture-to-text OCR plugin is available (thanks Bruce) as is a PDF help file.

Alternatively, PDF-XChange Viewer Portable adjusts paths and is bundled with the OCR plugin and help.

Note: The free version of PDF-XChange Viewer is missing some features of its commercial siblings, but is otherwise fully functional and totally free for both private and commercial use.

Midas: thanks for the reply. A while back, I had posted this issue on the PDF-XChange Viewer forum and was told of their switching to the Editor. Of course, I tried to get the Editor to install (no Portable edition available), but that wouldn't work either.

The Editor page does say that XP is supported. I'm hoping someone using the recent version of either the Editor or the Viewer might have some suggestions.

webfork on 2014-10-31 22:19

Just tested the 2.5.309.0 version of PortableApps' PDF-xchange ... it doesn't appear to include the OCR tools.

Mixture on 2014-11-22 19:37

My favorite part about the free version of PDF-XChange Viewer is the Security encryption options. Free 256-bit AES PDF protection! Otherwise, you'll have to use some awful PAID software for that security feature.
