Back4Sure v3.7.8

Ennovy on 19 Jan 2023
  • 6MB (uncompressed)
  • Released on 5 Jun 2022
  • Suggested by guinness

Back4Sure is a feature-rich backup solution for typical backup use. The program can make a backup to hard-disk, USB drive or network and can also be compressed using high or low compression settings to a ZIP or 7-zip file of various compression levels, as well as encrypted for security.

Other features include filters to backup or exclude specific file types, a cleanup mode to remove old archives, and creation of one or multiple zip files (separated by directory structure). Backups are saved by directory structure either inside the archive or inside the directory for easy restoring. Users can also use multiple settings profiles, or "job" files.

what you should know:
Cleanup is optional - it is very close related to an incremental backup.
Using this you have to select the same Target Directory as before to backup only changed files and to delete files on the backup that have been deleted on the original file system as well (the latter one is the actual Cleanup).

Hope it helps ;)

romulous on 2015-01-11 06:52

It's a crying shame that you can only backup folders with this tool, and not individual files within those folders (yes, I know you can set filters, but unless you know in advance what files you want from each folder, this is not practical to use).

Today, I came across this note:
"Beeftext uses the Qt framework that drop support for Windows 7 and Windows 8 with the release of Qt 6. Beeftext 11.1 is the last version to run on Windows 7 and Windows 8 (all variants)."

PortableApps.com AppCompactor v3.7

Andrew Lee on 27 Jun 2022
  • 1MB (uncompressed)
  • Released on 20 Jun 2022
  • Suggested by Checker

PortableApps.com AppCompactor allows you to compress whole directories including applications, file libraries and zip files. The program is a powerful compression tool that unites 7-Zip and UPX inside a user-friendly wizard. For applications, this saves disk space and increases performance when running from a slow media (like flash drives). For archives, this will recompress DLL, EXE, ZIP, JAR, IRC, PYD and BIN files to their maximum compression settings, as well as an option to decompress an app's binary files that were previously compressed with UPX.

All files are tested using UPX's test feature after compressing. Files smaller than 4K are automatically skipped as compressing will not save space on the drive. The standard Microsoft Visual C runtimes are skipped to prevent antivirus false-positives. Advanced configuration can be done with apps in PortableApps.com Format.

Note: As UPX will alter the EXEs and DLLs (reversible using the Decompress option in the AppCompactor) and some apps may have issues with Zip or Jar files compressed further, users should backup software and test it after processing.

@Cornflower, I`ve tried that but when you save in MemPad it doesn`t update the dropbox file, you have to export it again. No good.

NunoEFSilva on 2021-12-19 06:26

This is another hidden gem. Does it take notes in a structured way? Does it encrypt its contents? Yes, but that is just the beginning... One may keep all its favorites and use MemPad as a launcher of sites (http:something.dom), applications (file:..\ProgramFolder\Program.exe - it even accepts relative paths), folders and much more. All in little more than 100 KBytes! Sheer Magic!

Works great here. It only displayed my login password in the table, but switching to ASCII mode revealed my WEP encryption keys, as well as other details.

Nirsoft certainly offers useful apps! I use their Metar Weather every day. Nirsoft's Wireless Network Watcher is quite handy, too, because in addition to my home router, there's a free public one in my vicinity; it's often flakey when under heavy use, but thanks to Nirsoft, I can check on the conditions in advance.

NirSoft has great software, of which I use many different Apps that are so very helpful. When I have a problem or even if I'm just trying to find something NirSoft is usually my first stop to see what they have in the way of Software to help me find, fix, or understand something I'm trying to do. Thanks so much for the many years of help I have received from NirSoft, I'm always amazed at the new things that become available to make my life easier along with many other people. Thanks again Nirsoft.
