Splat v1.1.8

Midas on 4 Mar 2018
  • 2MB (uncompressed)
  • Released on 10 Aug 2015
  • Suggested by Checker

Splat (Simple Program Launching and Termination) allows you to build profiles that can launch or close programs and services. Supports drag-and-drop, hotkeys, process priority, and includes the ability to open specific files, folders, URLs, and even other Splat profiles. The program can aggressively close (kill) applications that may not shut down normally or add delays of time, CPU usage, or whether the previous program has closed yet.

Great for a computer startup sequence that won't slow down your computer or for switching between different separate program groups (such switching from a view all your financial programs, data, and files to all your photo/video editing tools)

  • Added the ability to create a profile shortcut in your startup folder. Right-click a profile and choose the option from the menu.
  • Fixed: Context menu did not work for reordering profiles.

I very quickly integrated this into the startup sequence on both of my main machines. Great to get multiple portable software up and running in a system-friendly way.

Thanks, webfork. Your comment made me realize that Splat can be used as a start-up manager... duh!

Seems like this doesn't work any more in Windows 10. Although apps portablised using it in previous versions of Windows still seem to work OK.

webfork on 2010-09-23 17:14

Gmacri: looks like the last release was the "final" one. You might try emailing the authors.

  • Suggested by crownixx

QuickWayToFolders provides quick and easy access to a folder on your computer via a taskbar icon. The program window disappears when you click outside the window. Display modes include:

  • Desktop: Act like a mini-desktop, with small icons
  • Small Browser: very similar to Windows explorer in "details" view
  • Menu: Display folder content in a menu
  • Multiple Folders Menu: Display multiple folders content in a single menu (note that you must manually add them or nothing will appear when you click the icon)
In the "Menu" and "Multiple Folders Menu" settings, the program can act like a Program Launcher. Multiple instances of the program can be run with customizable icons and each entry is added to the taskbar.

To use the program as a root folder of a portable folder choose Options - Local path, then use a forward slash: "\". To set an image as a background place it in the application folder and set path as "image name.jpg" etc.

Unicode support: No
Path portability: Requires manual entry of relative path (eg. ..\..\personal\work.doc)

Thanks, those are interesting apps. I really find ShortPopUp especially useful.

@billon
Better trust the executable. Softpedia also corrected the version number:

Midas on 2016-05-24 11:17

The version discrepancy should be noted -- the changelog at http://jacquelin.potier.free.fr/QuickWayToFolders/history.php stops at v1.3.4 ...

New version fixes problem of crashing on startup when you have an odd text zoom; I had 110% and now it does not crash.
