Driver Magician Lite identifies all the hardware in your system, extracts the associated drivers and backs them up to a location of your choice. Later, when you need to reinstall/upgrade Windows, you can restore all the saved drivers just as if you had the original driver diskettes in your hands. This is especially useful if you inherited an old machine or bought a white box system and did not receive all the original driver discs.

With 4.76, I did not find any entries in the registry. Nor did it remember the last backup folder.

I was just wondering what is wrong with backing up the drivers using Windows itself? That's what I've been doing for a long time. If I ever need to reinstall a driver, I just point Windows to the folder where all the drivers are backed up, and Windows will find and install the specific driver(s). Why would you even need this program at all? Make a new folder on your C drive (I find that easiest), then just run an administrator command prompt, and run the following command: dism /online /export-driver /destination:"C:\New Folder" Windows will back up your drivers, and you can then copy/cut/rename the new folder to whatever/wherever you want. Works for me. |

I really like this simple program. I used it first to hide/disable a corrupted Magic ISO contextual menu in mere seconds. Then later on I learned about some features of Explorer that could be turned off using this program, so I did that. It worked both times without any problems. I like that you can undo the changes too if you like. Good program. Thanks for updating this.

Love this program, recently had the dreaded explorer crash and this program allowed me to easily identify the culprit, and a uninstall/reinstall of the offending (acronis) software fixed my issue. Would have spent an eternity without this software. Should be part of Windoze. |

ShellMenu View is great for eliminating unwanted menu items when right-clicking. Definitely worth the price ($0.00!)

@Shaun AMEN a very good and useful program which helped me clean up a leftover mess when right clicking. Thanks to the maker for a great easy to use app. |
Rapid Environment Editor (RapidEE) is an environment variables editor. It includes an easy to use GUI and replaces the small and inconvenient Windows edit box, located in the System Information section.
"Environment variables are specially named string aliases for basic system properties. They contain information such as drive, path, or file name. They control the behavior of various programs. For example, the TEMP environment variable specifies the location in which programs place temporary files." (source)

Previous question hasn't been addressed, so I'm foregoing RapidEE for now. I would really like to know if it addresses issues like the one reported here: http://sites.google.com/site/redmondlab/path

Midas, I've just been playing with this and ran into the problem you described. On investigation I realised that there are two type of environment variables: Text String and Expandable String. Text String variables (orange tag) will not expand contained references to other environment variables when they are used. Expandable String variables (blue tag) will expand their references when used. You can change their type by F6 or via the right-click menu. These two types seem to be a feature of how Windows now stores environment variables internally. |
Types allows you to customize how Windows handles different file types. Includes changing program associations, icons, context menus and other settings.
Supports many world languages.

@Peter202: You will have to take a look at each program documentation (help files, wiki pages, even forums).

According to Softpedia, which rates it with 4 stars, current Types version is v2.1.6.10711, but I couldn't find a changelog anywhere, or any program info for that matter (see http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Miscellaneous/Types.shtml). |
MyUninstaller is an alternative utility to the standard Add/Remove Software control panel applet. It displays the list of all installed application, and allows you to uninstall an application, delete an uninstall entry, and save the list of all installed applications into a text file or HTML file. It also provides additional information for most installed applications that the standard applet does not display: product name, company, version, uninstall string, installation folder etc.

I generally use Revo (http://www.portablefreeware.com/index.php?id=1398) to make sure files are removed but to get multiple programs off quickly, I use FreeUninstaller (http://www.portablefreeware.com/?id=1350), which has a local and online search, use frequency, website, and other features. |
PC Decrapifier helps you remove many of the common trialware and crapware found installed by default on many of the PCs from big name OEMs. Toolbars, anti-virus and other trials, and many other tools that make money for the laptop makers, but just take up space on your computer without providing value. The program lets you check off items to be removed.
Note: this program has been discontinued.
