System Requirements: WinXP / Vista / Win7 / Win8

License: Freeware
How to extract: Download the ZIP package and extract to a folder of your choice. Launch ColorManiaPortable.exe.
What's new?
  • We fixed an issue with the stayontop feature of ColorMania.
  • The powerbuilder color format was added to the list.
  • The color grabber now supports color averaging. This can be done based on 3x3 or 5x5 pixels.
This feature makes it a lot easier to find the color that most matches the general color of the original image.
  • When using color palettes, the palette name is now also visible.
  • The screen layout got some major changes. The colormania screen got a big darker, so that the colors are better visible.
  • The program icon was changed so that it's more obvious that ColorMania is a color picker.
  • The icon was also added in the system tray, which makes the options menu more accesible.

Also check out Color Selector for something similar (but with a better UI in my opinion):

ColorCop v5.3 Updated

Midas on 20 Nov 2014
  • 101KB (uncompressed)
  • Suggested by risk

ColorCop allows you to magnify any part of your screen and pick a color from it using the eye dropper tool. The magnifier supports 1 to 16x zoom, and the eye dropper tool can pick an average color from a 3x3 or 5x5 area instead of sampling only a single pixel. The picked color can be easily exported to various formats required by HTML, Delphi, PowerBuilder, Visual Basic or Visual C++ etc.

Note: ColorCop is currently at v5.4.5, which is no longer portable (writes settings to user profile folder); since its license does not forbid redistribution, TPFC is making natively portable v5.3 available for download.

I've been happily using this program for years. It just works.

It also will retrieve the "powerbuilder" formatted colour codes. I needed those values for manually editing the styles.xml settings for TreeDBnotes.

Hi Infimum :-)
Category for this kind of tool, I prefer "Graphics - Color Tools" rather than "Games - Tools", what do you think?

infimum on 2010-12-20 08:49

"Games" and "Graphics" are close alphabetically ;-)

Easily my favorite color picking app, mainly for the compact size, any key locking, and one-click copying of values.

Adding HSL values would make it even better.
