mp3DirectCut is a small tool for editing MPEG audio directly. You can remove parts, change the volume, split files or copy regions to new files, all without the need to decompress your MP3 into PCM/WAV. This saves work, encoding time and disk space. In addition, there is no quality loss to edited files.

The new "flat" design with similar monochrome icons is a step back in usability. Normal appearance, apart from grouping of toolbar buttons, can be restored under Configuration -> Layout.

After years of not being able to just drop-in a recent version of ffmpeg in Audacity's application folder, you can finally just do that.

@Ultra7ven - I have a forum post written up about how to set ffmpeg as a portable relative path: https://www.portablefreeware.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=101359#p101359 |

@vmars316 - I checked and OBS Studio is QT-based rather than Electron-based (though a different project called Streamlabs OBS is). I've updated the entry.

As of June 12, OBS version 23.2.0 is a release candidate and not the current stable version. The current stable version is 23.1.0. If you post a release candidate, that should be stated in the description so users can know what they are downloading.

My recently purchased webcam only works with one version of OBS so I'm unable to upgrade to use new features. I have always had problems playing any video except uncompressed and despite being able to play and edit just about any anything in other software on my PC. Other people have complained about the same issue (videos showing as a black screen) for years but the problem is never addressed by the developers. If you can work around issues such as these or are lucky enough not to be plagued by them, then OBS is nice, light software and recording and streaming work well. |

The update to 1.4.0.0 applies only for the x86-version - interestingly the x64-version remains at 1.3.0.0 (last update 06.12.2016!)

Great software! The real time effects support is what sets it apart from Audacity. I wish it was open source though... |
Streamosaur is an audio recording program that records directly to disk. Streamosaur can use any broadcast from the sound card including microphone, input lines from external mixer and more. Saves in uncompressed WAV format by default, but encoding directly to MP3 (128 kbps) can be enabled.
The advantage to this software is that recordings can be made faster and easier, without drawing from a temporary file in RAM like many other recording programs. Additionally, the only limit to recording time is your drive size.
From the makers of Wavosaur.

Forgot to mention you can set the MP3 bitrate in the streamosaur.ini file.
webfork
on 2010-10-17 03:50
freakazoid: in testing I was unable to modify the bitrate. I changed it but the program would change it back and files output would remain at 128.

@webfork - You are indeed right! I assumed changing the bitrate setting in the .ini would change the bitrate in Streamosaur. Guess I was wrong! |
