After years of not being able to just drop-in a recent version of ffmpeg in Audacity's application folder, you can finally just do that.

Tried on recent version Audacity_x64 with ffmpeg_x64 (needs the shared builds) and it works! Just have to update location folder of ffmpeg on main gui.

@vmars316 - I checked and OBS Studio is QT-based rather than Electron-based (though a different project called Streamlabs OBS is). I've updated the entry.

Yucca on 2019-06-12 11:35

As of June 12, OBS version 23.2.0 is a release candidate and not the current stable version. The current stable version is 23.1.0. If you post a release candidate, that should be stated in the description so users can know what they are downloading.

rb161 on 2020-12-16 23:25

My recently purchased webcam only works with one version of OBS so I'm unable to upgrade to use new features. I have always had problems playing any video except uncompressed and despite being able to play and edit just about any anything in other software on my PC. Other people have complained about the same issue (videos showing as a black screen) for years but the problem is never addressed by the developers. If you can work around issues such as these or are lucky enough not to be plagued by them, then OBS is nice, light software and recording and streaming work well.

@Fire The Fox: Have you submitted it to V!rusTotal to substantiate you allegation?

Antiv!rus false positives are overly common and Norton isn't exempt from them. Without having tested it, I doubt a proven reliable (multi-platform) software like Ocenaudio has all of a sudden become a source of malware.

Until then, please keep your recommendations to yourself as they amount to little more than public slander.

Midas on 2019-10-14 09:41

On a side note, I had to disguise my reply because it fell foul of the site's banned word list while Fire The Fox accusation of Ocenaudio sailed through by using plurals...

@Fox: You might want to run files you test through VirusTotal before posting. I rechecked both 32 and 64 bit and both are safe.

mp3DirectCut v2.36

mp3DirectCut is a small tool for editing MPEG audio directly. You can remove parts, change the volume, split files or copy regions to new files, all without the need to decompress your MP3 into PCM/WAV. This saves work, encoding time and disk space. In addition, there is no quality loss to edited files.

The new "flat" design with similar monochrome icons is a step back in usability. Normal appearance, apart from grouping of toolbar buttons, can be restored under Configuration -> Layout.

The program is a good tool for trimming old MP3 encodes without incurring further quality loss. Glitches are avoided if the MP3 is upconverted to 320 kbit beforehand with MP3Packer.

I wish it also supported common simple video soundtrack formats.

aazard on 2020-11-30 23:58

AT ITS SIZE, nothing is like this! so powerful

Its similar to AviTricks Classic for Avi editing, but for audio files. Using a 3rd "tiny" app, Avi2wav, these together are 2mb worth of just stupid levels of "professionalism"

...If your only audio editor was this little guy, you could PULL A LOT OFF

The update to 1.4.0.0 applies only for the x86-version - interestingly the x64-version remains at 1.3.0.0 (last update 06.12.2016!)

@zorro - Looks like the Wavosaur team updated the x64 version after you mentioned it :)

Great software! The real time effects support is what sets it apart from Audacity. I wish it was open source though...

Streamosaur v1.0.0.1

billon on 19 Feb 2018
  • 61KB (uncompressed)
  • Released on 4 Nov 2008
  • Suggested by Island Boy

Streamosaur is an audio recording program that records directly to disk. Streamosaur can use any broadcast from the sound card including microphone, input lines from external mixer and more. Saves in uncompressed WAV format by default, but encoding directly to MP3 (128 kbps) can be enabled.

The advantage to this software is that recordings can be made faster and easier, without drawing from a temporary file in RAM like many other recording programs. Additionally, the only limit to recording time is your drive size.

Forgot to mention you can set the MP3 bitrate in the streamosaur.ini file.

webfork on 2010-10-17 03:50

freakazoid: in testing I was unable to modify the bitrate. I changed it but the program would change it back and files output would remain at 128.

freakazoid on 2010-10-17 05:48

@webfork - You are indeed right! I assumed changing the bitrate setting in the .ini would change the bitrate in Streamosaur. Guess I was wrong!

However, some have had success over on the Streamosaur forums: http://www.wavosaur.com/forum/mp3-bitrate-option-t765.html
