After years of not being able to just drop-in a recent version of ffmpeg in Audacity's application folder, you can finally just do that.

Tried on recent version Audacity_x64 with ffmpeg_x64 (needs the shared builds) and it works! Just have to update location folder of ffmpeg on main gui.

@Fire The Fox: Have you submitted it to V!rusTotal to substantiate you allegation?

Antiv!rus false positives are overly common and Norton isn't exempt from them. Without having tested it, I doubt a proven reliable (multi-platform) software like Ocenaudio has all of a sudden become a source of malware.

Until then, please keep your recommendations to yourself as they amount to little more than public slander.

Midas on 2019-10-14 09:41

On a side note, I had to disguise my reply because it fell foul of the site's banned word list while Fire The Fox accusation of Ocenaudio sailed through by using plurals...

@Fox: You might want to run files you test through VirusTotal before posting. I rechecked both 32 and 64 bit and both are safe.

The new "flat" design with similar monochrome icons is a step back in usability. Normal appearance, apart from grouping of toolbar buttons, can be restored under Configuration -> Layout.

The program is a good tool for trimming old MP3 encodes without incurring further quality loss. Glitches are avoided if the MP3 is upconverted to 320 kbit beforehand with MP3Packer.

I wish it also supported common simple video soundtrack formats.

aazard on 2020-11-30 23:58

AT ITS SIZE, nothing is like this! so powerful

Its similar to AviTricks Classic for Avi editing, but for audio files. Using a 3rd "tiny" app, Avi2wav, these together are 2mb worth of just stupid levels of "professionalism"

...If your only audio editor was this little guy, you could PULL A LOT OFF

How to extract: For portability, you now have to tick the option it presents you to force it.

Paul's Extreme Sound Stretch Portable v2.2-2 Rev 2

billon on 19 Feb 2018
  • 2MB (uncompressed)
  • Released on 16 Nov 2014
  • Suggested by Emka

Paul's Extreme Sound Stretch is a program for modifying audio, although its most noted feature is stretching. The program includes the capability for (8x, 50x etc.) sound stretching, as well "spectral smoothing" the sounds to escape the audio artifacts common in other audio editors when dramatically slowing audio. Includes many post-processing effects including filters, pitch/frequency shifters and more. The program imports WAV, OGG and MP3 files and can export to WAV or OGG.

The program can be used as an audio toy or in creating ambient or "screw"-style music.

WaveShop v1.0.14.001

Midas on 3 Sep 2019
  • 6MB (uncompressed)
  • Released on 7 Nov 2013
  • Suggested by Taf

WaveShop is a fast and lightweight audio editor, which despite its name supports lots of different audio file formats, including MP3, FLAC, OGG/Vorbis, and AAC/MP4. The program is bit-perfect, meaning uncompressed audio samples aren't altered unless they need to be; editing a portion of an audio file only affects that portion and the rest of the file remains untouched. Cut and pasted audio blocks won't modify their contents. This is especially useful for patching a finished master without corrupting its dither. Other features include unlimited undo, peak and RMS analysis, normalizing, fading, audio generation, and more.

Note that the author recommends running the 64-bit version (if you have 64-bit Windows) as it can load bigger files without running out of memory.

Alternatively, WaveShop Portable automatically switches between 32 & 64-bit and portablizes paths. X-WaveShop is also available.
