The entry's description should make clear that what's offered here is the PortableApps package. Upstream Spybot S&D v2.5 ditched XP support, and XP users are advised to stay with v2.4:

System requirements should not include Vista for v2.6

Beware! Even you don't clean anything, the portable package leaves numerous traces in the system: hard to find registry keys (search also for "Safe Networking Limited") and a stubborn folder in ProgramData plus one in AppData\Roaming (unfortunately I didn't wrote down all the traces before cleaning up). |
ClamWin is the Windows version of ClamAV, a virus and spyware scanner which database is constantly maintained by a group of volunteers and updates are always available for free. Note that the program does not contain an on-access real-time scanner; you must manually scan a file in order to detect malware or use a third party tool like the general purpose Directory Monitor (see Execute scripts/applications when events occur) or the outdated Clam Sentinel.
ClamWin Portable is a portable wrapper for ClamWin and can be modified to automatically update virus database periodically or during startup.

Isn't the "Right Click Menu" integration added in version 4.0 basically incompatible with the concept of portable applications? Does this upgrade have other effects on the registry that impact/break the portability enjoyed by previous versions?

PeerBlock filters Internet connections from addresses of organizations and corporations that may harm user privacy while using the Internet and P2P networks. The program also contains a "Block HTTP" feature for use with web browsers that blocks advertisements, sites associated with spyware, and more. PeerBlock is a fork of the popular but inactive PeerGuardian, adding features and fixes as well as Windows Vista/7/8 and 64-bit versions.
Alternatively, Peerblock Portable is stealth and automatically selects the proper Peerblock variant for the current PC.

That is a good hint 1way. But is there a trick to make it launch a web address?
1way
on 2010-08-03 14:34
Sure Homer. For portability I use Browzar for private trackless surfing, put this in your .bat file: browzar http://www.1way.ws If you want to use Internet Explorer use: "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" http://www.1way.ws (I'm using XP, if you use a different OS adjust the path to IE accordingly, the downside is the link then becomes OS dependent.)

Thanks 1way. It works well provided that the browser is in Porta'Menu's foder. |

RogueRemover is a utility that can remove various rogue antispyware, antivirus and hard drive cleaning utilities. Rogue applications are applications that rather than remove spyware, provide false positives, distribute malware or spyware, advertise, or provide useless uninstallers. The main point is that rogue applications are useless and eat up system resources.

No longer exists! Go ahead and click the link, if you do it takes you to the site, you can download MalwareBytes Anti-Malware, which contains the Rogue Remover, however, is not portable to the best of my knowledge.

Nope...this is no longer available at majorgeeks or tinyurl. What's more, with something like an antivirus or antispyware, putting your faith in an old version is worse than not having any tool and still being wary. The ostensible successor is Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware product which is not stealthy...albeit it does work very well. |
