NeoMem v1.2b

  • Released on 1 Mar 2006
  • Suggested by Mariwal Jordo

NeoMem allows you to store and organize all kinds of information in a cross between a word processor and database. It can be used to store to do lists, books, website passwords, addresses, account information, and collections of all kinds. The database can even be encrypted for maximum security.

Note: Website offline. Linking to archive.org mirror.

Category:
Runs on:Win95 / Win98 / WinME / WinNT / Win2K / WinXP
Writes settings to: Windows registry. But given the small number of non-critical settings that is written (most settings are stored in the database), I think it can be accepted as portable.
Unicode support: No
License: MIT X11
How to extract: Download the ZIP package and extract to a folder of your choice. Launch NeoMem.exe.

Tested it on Windows 10 and it seems to work just fine.
Standard there is no support for reading NeoMem.hlp but you are redirected to a Microsoft site to download WinHlp32.exe(not tested)

Midas on 2015-11-13 23:25

I was an user of Neomem once -- interesting implementation, plenty of bugs, no documentation -- until I eventually abandoned it.

For anyone interested, Treeline (http://www.portablefreeware.com/?id=971) is not as light, but has everything Neomem offered and is still in active development...

smaragdus on 2015-11-13 23:57

This seems to be the same project hosted at GitHub- https://github.com/bburns/neomem but I don't expect NeoMem to be revived.

This entry lets the site down
If your bored with collecting portable freeware get yourself another project dont ruin all this fine work

You can still copy(export) bookmarks from web browser to another one.
Opera do not give the option to export to IE.

hamasaki on 2015-12-24 14:50

Doesn`t seem to work with Opera now as the portable version of Opera has no .addr file (as far as I can tell) and the bookmarks are stored in a 'Bookmarks' file which fails with Transmute Pro, which I did purchase btw.

Also, on the Visit option, no other browsers appear. I emailed the developers but had no response. For paid software, that is very poor. Best file this under junk.

Latest stable version is 2.0_1, a release candidate for 2.1 and a beta for 2.2 are also available. Does extraction still work and make it portable?

Midas on 2014-03-06 15:42

The difference between (Uni)extraction and choosing portable with the installer is mainly the creation of an 'export' sub-folder and a 'binInst.ini' with the following content:

[Main]
CurrVersion=002.002.300.000
wxVersion=002.008.010.001
portableInstall=1

It's true, "Trying it is adopting it!"

I finally got down to using this for interlinked notes and now I can't imagine going back to anything else. What really sets it apart is the on-the-fly nature of editing. OutWiker is a bit more advanced but it's tedious in comparison.
