Works like an encrypted archive file with one main feature - if you type in the wrong password more than three times, your data is gone forever!

Jpg+FileBinder v1.0

smaragdus on 13 Jun 2017
  • 383KB (uncompressed)
  • Released on 29 May 2010
  • Suggested by anonimice

Jpg+FileBinder is able to hide files in a picture file by merging one of three compressed file types (.zip, .rar, .7z) with an ordinary JPEG image file. This basic steganography makes the compressed file look like any other JPEG image file to the operating system and any image viewer. Meanwhile, if users try to open the file using WinRAR or 7-Zip, the compressed files will appear.

This may be used as a camouflage for information or to help transfer non-image format files through image hosting-only services. Note that this program does not include encryption by default and only joins image files and archive files. To enable security, use password-protection provided by your compression program.

Waste of an application.
Tutorial:
copy /b source.jpg + desired.zip result.jpg

Copy.exe is built into windows, and the /b copies binary data.
The command throws the zip information at the end of the picture and outputs the result as a picture.

HK13 on 2015-10-20 01:02

It is now 2015, Windows 10 is alive & well and my favorite mini app, 'Chaos Manager' is alive, well and working better then ever. It does what it does so well in a compact size, both the software and the UI.. Having looked at many other similar apps, I find them to take up much screen real estate. Chaos Manager is simple and perfect.

Unfortunately it's author has abandoned the website, and last time I contacted him he said he was done. This made me sad as it's software I've used for what seems like forever. But the good news is is that it's functioning better then ever, Windows 95 through Windows 10 (32 bit or 64 bit), and is in no need of change.

webfork on 2015-11-01 00:56

HK13: if you're in contact with the author, could you ask him/her to open source it? So maybe someone could pick it up and keep it going?

Steganos LockNote v1.0.5

Checker on 6 Oct 2015

LockNote works in two ways: it is a notepad that encrypts everything you put inside and also creates copies of itself when you drag-drop a text file into it. You end up with a new EXE that displays the content of that text file when run using the correct password.

Category:

Writes settings to: None
Stealth: ? Yes
Unicode support: No
License: GPL
How to extract: Download the ZIP package and extract to a folder of your choice. Launch LockNote.exe.
What's new? New:
  • Changed default font to Lucida Console to avoid 1/l - O/0 confusion.
  • Font typeface can be selected (Arial/Courier New/Lucida Console/Tahoma/Verdana).
  • Font size can be selected (9/10/12/14).
  • LockNote saves window size, font size and font typeface.
Fixed:
  • Find Dialog: Enter/Tab/Escape/Space/Ctrl-V keys work.
  • Find Dialog: Message displayed if search string is not found.
  • Find Dialog: F3 brings up Find Dialog or finds next result.

It would be nice if LockNote will have an option to increase font sizes.

codeNinja on 2015-10-05 08:17

For everyone still using this, be aware that version 1.0.5 still has some bugs.

User review from username al156243 in sourceforge posted this on 01/04/2015

"Locknote has a clean simple design. I would be very useful if not for a fatal bug where it occasionally fails to save changes. There is no error message or any other indication that it has failed. I have had it working perfectly for a long period of time and, for no reason, suddenly stops updating changes. If I use "save as" to create a new file, it will continue to work but will eventually fail again for no apparent reason. "

User review from username fireshadow500 in sourceforge posted this on 02/22/2013

"Be careful - LockNote silently fails to save data. You can tell by watching the Modified timestamp ... when it fails it doesn't change. I lost critical banking login details. I am using KeePass now, which isn't great for handling text but at least it is reliable."

If you still want to use this, make backups when updating the content and always check if content is saved properly.

An alternative to this is fSekrit (smaller and works the same as lockNote) http://www.portablefreeware.com/?id=784

Eraser v5.8.8

webfork on 16 May 2015
  • 2MB (uncompressed)
  • Released on
  • Suggested by MISIIM

Eraser is a feature-rich tool to permanently delete sensitive data from your hard drive by overwriting it with random patterns. Includes a scheduler, free-space wipe, random number generation for better overwriting, page file wipe at shutdown, password-protected settings, and more. The program includes a wide variety of wiping mechanisms from very fast (only deleting the first and last 2kb) to extraordinarily slow (35-pass). Note that all but the most security-minded users should only need only the 1-pass "pseudo-random" wipe.

Alternatively, Eraser Portable is a PortableApps version.

Note: The 5.x branch is no longer supported. There is a 6.x branch available, but there is no official portable version for this branch and it requires the .NET framework.

What's new? Do not erase sparse, compressed or encrypted files when FL2KB erasure is selected to prevent disk corruption.
Fix Win32 Eraser builds to be truly Unicode builds.
A few 64-bit fixes.
Ensure that Eraser uses the latest runtimes packaged with the installer. This should fix hangs when using the Context menu.
Fixed the About dialog after migrating to Unicode
Sign all binaries packaged with the installer
Allow erasing UNC paths
Fixed memory exhaustion when doing a free space erase for FAT drives
Migrate non-Unicode custom erasure methods to the Unicode methods so that old custom erasure methods are preserved upon upgrade

Ensure that Eraser is not running when the Eraser setup is run
