PopMan is an email management tool that notifies of new mail and previews received mail on your server. Unwanted mail can be deleted directly from the server without having download them.
The program includes rules and blacklists to manage email and supports both POP3 and IMAP4 protocols.

PopMan is great but unfortunately it seems to be abandoned. There is one thing I don't like about it- PopMan doesn't support Unicode.
v1.3.1
@Kea: added Win10 to system requirements. Tested in Windows 10 and works fine!
v1.3.1
Addition: Some of my PopMan-addicted friends use PopMan in Windows 10, without problems (e.g. http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/popman_portable).
v1.3.1
It is time to "promote" good old PopMan again. I use it portable since at least ten years and I never ever download the mail without first checking it with PopMan. Back then, I got 100-200 spam daily - now I have about three!
I can stand that, and if they become to much of a nuisance, they go into the rules file!
The thing is: Use the force (rules), boys and girls (Menu: Tools > Rules...)! It is a very easy method to sort the spam mail: things to delete directly from the server, things to mark for "read first and then delete or maybe keep. The help file (Help > Getting started > Define Rules) includes very easy to understood (even if you are quite a new beginner on it) explanations on how to write the rules.
PopMan has never failed me - no crashes, no nothing, it's just doing its job. So, danke schön, Christian!
v1.3.1
I used to swear by popcorn, but I just can't seem to get it to connect to gmail anymore. PopMan has no problems. Nice :)
v1.3.1
@ Kea: Done.
v1.3.1
I now use PopMan in Win7 (64) and, atomizer, I check 8 accounts at a time.
I friend of mine upgraded to Win8, and he got some problems: PopMan (portable) is the only application that works. He can't open Outlook and he can't reach Internet. But PopMan can, so he can still communicate with us to reach a solution to his problems with Win8.
So please, someone who knows how to do it, add Win7 and Win8 to "System Requirements".
v1.3.1
nice, small email checker with a clean, simple UI. couple things i don't like about it though...
* i use Thunderbird and cannot reply to an email, while including the quoted body, without launching unnecessary parts of the TB UI. using the command-line option doesn't work because it will not include the body (mailto:[TO]?subject=[SUBJECT]) - there's no [BODY] keyword available. none of the other options work without launching parts of the TB UI that are not needed for a simple reply.
* can check only 1 account at a time
* no global connection timeout setting
* no global setting for number of lines to retrieve
all in all, fairly minor shortcomings, but the inability to reply with quoted body, without opening unneeded parts of the client UI, is rather disappointing
V1.3.1
Important to note that PopMan does not send email, it only receives them.
V1.3.1
- is not a valid win32 application
v1.3.2
