Subtitle Edit is a subtitle editor for creating, editing, sync'ing, adjusting, repair and translation of subtitles. The program can also import and OCR vobsub and blu-ray image based subtitles (even from matroska/mp4 files).

Supports more than 200 subtitle formats and written in C#.

System Requirements: WinXP / Vista / Win7 / Win8 / Win10
Writes settings to: Application folder
Dependencies: Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0+

Unicode support: Yes. Problems with unicode characters (WinXP).
Use font Lucida Sans Unicode/Times New Roman.

How to extract: Download the "Portable version" ZIP package and extract to a folder of your choice. Launch SubtitleEdit.exe.

Hmmm and all this time I have been using notepad to edit any subtitle that needed I missing something or is there really an advantage to using software such as this?
