[Anonymous] chatvache.infoAn excellent (best?) notepad.
The original version is already a 100% portable notepad. Notepad configuration is saved in the registry, but you can save/load these settings.
See the author site for download, infos and Misc. Tools: http://www.flos-freeware.ch/notepad2.html

[Anonymous] Ancient ImagesWindows 98 users can run Portable Notepad2 1.0.12.0. Launcher 0.4.0.0. [2007-05-23 08:36]

[Anonymous] ii.mullGoes with me where ever I go. Always on my thumb drive, and I replace the regular notepad.exe with this one on any system I work on for more that one hour. I'd only wish for an "execute" this file function and I'd be unbearably happy with it. Highly recommended [2007-07-26 08:28]

[Anonymous] ii.mullPlease forget my last comment on executing files. Flo has already included this, and Alt-L will execute the current file but does not capture the output. A good try is made to determine the appropriate launcher for the file, and I've used VBScript, Python, Perl, AutoIt, and others successfully. Did I mention that I love this program?

[Anonymous] DannyWith tabs/MDI, this scintilla-based text editor coulda been a contender. Sadly, the author doesn't like MDI (see FAQ) so I'll probably stick with wSciTE or Notepad++. Otherwise, it's an excellent text editor. =\ [2007-09-13 07:09]

[Anonymous] HomerSmithBy far, the best notepad replacement. This program is far better than Notepad++. It's fast, small, and has all of the features of a class editor. This a big part my thumb drive toolkit. Cheers to the author! [2007-10-30 17:54]

[Anonymous] DanFar better than the many others I've tried and now on my thumb drive. Excellent color coding except in HTML,CSS, and PHP files. A little poor in PHP *.inc files. Maybe I have the wrong type selected. It does many. Hats off to the author. [2007-12-06 20:09]

[Anonymous] BenNotepad++ is much larger than Notepad2. I would like to see comparisons between Notepad2 and Akelpad.

Why color coding if there is no MDI?

[Anonymous] MathGuyVery Good! Thanks for sharing this good freeware.
I have used it as a simple programing editor.
It's small and fast. Just copy it. It will work anywhere, in any folder, you want.

[Anonymous] CentFor semitransparent notepad try StNotepad: http://stforms.net/StNotepad.html

You can type on a semitransparent notepad with the text being opaque, very useful to type image text from behind.

[Anonymous] snickers@Cent - StNotepad isn't freeware. [2009-08-28 12:56]

[Anonymous] euchootoo bad there's no tabbed viewing [2009-08-28 15:58]

[Anonymous] MidasI have used it since version 1.0 and like it very much. Unfortunately, 3 major versions later, it is still not my default notepad replacement (which BTW is win32pad) simply because it doesn't do URL detection and launching via the system API. What a shame... [2009-08-30 13:31]

[Anonymous] ignatiusI liked StNotepad very much, watch the video of it.

[Anonymous] BrooksI was looking for a notepad with Multitouch feature, to edit text in tablet mode on muli-touch tablet PC. I found that StNotepad 2 got this feature with very common and useful getures. Now I can edit text only with fingers no need of keyboard, mouse and stylus also. [2010-01-15 06:04]

[Anonymous] LyxWonderful simple little texteditor. If only it's support for syntax schemes were a bit more extensible (right now, you need to edit the sourcecode and recompile the app, just to add a syntax scheme). [2010-03-02 12:02]

Note that false positives (i.e. flagging a virus when there is actually none) are extremely common for virus scanners. When in doubt, try an online scanner like Online Malware Scanner or VirusTotal, which scans files using multiple anti-virus engines. It is very likely to be a false positive if only a few engines raise the red flag.
