I for the latest version, 7.15.2672, on SnapFiles and downloaded it. However, upon unzipping it and running the main app, my system immediately treat the theSage.exe as malware and erased it. I securely wiped the ZIP file, downloaded it again and extracted it, only to see Bandizip say "Access is denied(5)" the main app was erased again. I'm glad I have version 6.10.1816 on my desktop and version 7.8.2644 on my portable drive. Neither give me any problems.

I tried the latest version of this dictionary/thesaurus portable software and still had problems with it. Only this time, I recorded my problem.

DSynchronize v2.33.2 Updated

billon on 7 Jun 2017
  • 617KB (uncompressed)
  • Released on 6 Jun 2017
  • Suggested by milentechie

DSynchronize lets you copy, move, or synchronize folders on your computer or over a network. The program can sync in both directions, making both folders up-to-date with the latest data, do realtime sync where any changes copied to destination, and even verify it's transfers. The program can schedule operations, add timestamps to the destination folder, and keep multiple backups (iterations).

If in use, the program can even eject a USB device when an operation is complete.

@ahmedemad: you might try Recuva, for example (http://www.portablefreeware.com/?id=1139)...

smaragdus on 2015-05-21 02:18

Latest version of DSynchronize (2.30.9) fails to run on my system (Windows 8.1 x64)- it opens and exits almost immediately. This never happened with any version prior to 2.30.9. I contacted the developer but haven't got any response so far. If he had responded I would have provided him with the dump files.

Thanks for trying. Dsyncronize has been a reliable program and the developer has been fairly active over the years. I hope he gets back to you.

USB Disk Ejector v1.3.0.5 Updated

billon on 8 Jun 2017
  • 4MB (uncompressed)
  • Released on 1 Jun 2017
  • Suggested by milentechie

USB Disk Ejector allows you to quickly and easily remove USB devices. It is useful when dealing with devices that refuse to eject, multiple devices, or if you don't want to see the "Now safe to remove this device" dialog. The program includes a variety of available advanced features including hotkeys, has available post-eject actions, and more.

Functional from the command-line.

Category:
System Requirements: WinXP / Vista / Win7 / Win8 / Win10
Writes settings to: None
Stealth: ? Yes
Unicode support: Yes
License: GPL-2.0
How to extract: Download the ZIP package and extract to a folder of your choice. Launch USB_Disk_Eject.exe.
Similar/alternative apps: ProEject
What's new?
  • Added: /EJECTCARD command line switch - this makes it eject the card media rather than the drive itself. Combine it with other switches, eg. /REMOVELETTER G /EJECTCARD would eject an SD card in drive G.
  • Changed: The 'Bring to front/restore' hotkey now toggles between hiding/showing the program.
  • Fixed:
    • Card readers with identical drives like Kingston MobileLite G4. Previously you could only set one drive as a card reader - now if you define one as a card reader both become card readers;
    • Pressing escape to minimize didn't work when 'Minimize to tray' was disabled;
    • Memory card ejection via hotkeys. Previously ejecting via a hotkey just ejected the drive regardless of whether it was a card reader or not. Now it behaves like the rest of the program - if it is a card reader then the media is ejected rather than the drive;
    • Memory card ejection when the program is in 'Mobile mode' - this is when it copies and restarts itself, eg. when trying to eject the drive the program is running from. Card reader settings are now respected here - if it is a card reader then the media is ejected rather than the drive.

aka Muttley, try to disconnect 5 USB devices using that method and then try to disconnect the same 5 USB devices with this program. Then you'll see the difference... It's just much easier, and requires less clicks in diferent places! ;)

JCATech on 2008-09-23 20:41

I'm using this program for over 8 months without any problem.
It works great, a run an autoit script that close Pstart and other custom programs from my USB drive and then executes the USB Disk Ejector.

SmartSniff v2.27

billon on 6 Mar 2017
  • 135KB (uncompressed)
  • Released on 6 Mar 2017
  • Suggested by milentechie

SmartSniff is a network analysis/dignostic tool that allows you to capture TCP/IP packets that pass through your network adapter. You can view the captured data as sequence of conversations between clients and servers in ASCII mode (for text-based protocols, like HTTP, SMTP, POP3 and FTP) or as hex dump (for non text-based protocols, like DNS).

On Win2K or above, SmartSniff is able to capture TCP/IP packets using raw sockets. This method has some limitations and problems, but it does not require any additional installation. A better way to capture TCP/IP packets is to install the open-source WinPcap capture driver, functional on Windows 98 and later.

There is a more recent version of Wireshark (portable)

Kermode on 2011-08-30 23:14

@Zadadka
No I'm not - a portable program is one that doesn't install files.

@SnowStorm:
It still isn't portable since it wants to install WinPCap

bzl333 on 2013-03-13 02:53

@kermode - it works on raw sockets in winXP SP3, so it is portable for some users at least.

OpenedFilesView v1.70

billon on 14 Jul 2016
  • 96KB (uncompressed)
  • Released on 13 Jul 2016
  • Suggested by milentechie

OpenedFilesView displays the list of all opened files on your system. For each opened file, the handle value, read/write/delete access, file position, the process that opened the file, etc. are displayed. You can also close one or more opened files, or terminate the processes that opened these files. This is particularly handy when you are trying to delete/move/open a file and Windows complains that the file is "locked".

HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\LEGACY_NIRSOFTOPENEDFILESDRIVER
Unicode support: Yes

How to extract: Download the ZIP package and extract a folder of your choice. Launch OpenedFilesView.exe.
What's new? Added:
  • 'Close Processes Of Selected Files'. As opposed to the 'Kill Processes Of Selected Files' option that brutally kills the process, this option sends a request to the application to close itself as soon as possible (using WM_QUERYENDSESSION and WM_ENDSESSION Windows messages).
  • closeprocess and killprocess commands to the /closefile and /closefolder command-line options, which allow you to close/kill the process instead of closing the file handle, for example:
    OpenedFilesView.exe /closefile closeprocess "c:\myfile.txt"
  • Elevated Process' column.
  • New information to 'Attributes' column: 'T' for 'Temporary File', 'I' for 'Not Content Indexed', 'E' for encrypted file, 'X' for 'No Scrub File', and 'V' for 'Integrity Attribute'.
