Calibre 6.x not runs on Vista / Win7 and Win8
v6.1
Now at 5.14
v5.12
AndTheWolf - Although not officially supported, the current release works fine on Windows 7. PortableApps.com is testing every release for compatibility with Windows 7 as part of packaging calibre Portable. One of us will update the listing if something changes in the future.
v4.21.0
calibre-ebook.com/download_windows states that current Calibre versions are for Windows 8 and higher, and the last version to fully support Window 7 is calibre 3.48. Downloads for 3.48, including the portable installer version, are at download.calibre-ebook.com/3.48.0/. You should change the system requirements.
v4.21.0
Incidentally there's an official portable version available on the Calibre website (https://calibre-ebook.com/download_portable), which works fine and appears to be stealth. (No Trolltech keys.)
v3.18
Per CALIBRE Version: 2.33.0 beyond version 1.48x CALIBRE no longer supports XP.

v2.33.0
@bzl333 weel, you have to bear criticism if you want to improve! (unkind criticism is another matter)
Calibre is "huge" (maybe it have to be like that, it's not a criticism, it's just a pity!), and I too don't like at all its way to make its own library (I have to put there only books I want to convert, and remove them, not a user friendly behaviour). It's a little too complicated, but it does its job well!
For me it's a must-have but also a could-be-better!! :-)
v2.28.0
@Tom - well its FREEEEEEEE so you got more than you paid the evil author of the program. also will be nice if you spend thousands of hours developing a free program and then let others criticize you with BIG BOLD ANGRY CAPITALS!!!!
v2.19.0
Calibre has become bloated and slow over the last 2 years. I just can't use it anymore. I stick with Calibre 0.8.66 (August 2012) thru Portable Calibre 0.9.17 (FEB 2013). Anything past June of 2013, you are asking for trouble. I can only give this 1 star for the newer versions. I don't like how it puts a preference in your registry. THAT IS NOT GOOD FOR A PORTABLE TOOL. Portable is supposed to be PORTABLE and it should not place ANYTHING in your registry or on your PC, but it does. TO ME, THAT IS JUST PLAIN WRONG AND YOU SHOULD BE VERY CAREFUL ABOUT CALIBRE.
v2.17.0
Thanks IndioBB. I changed the entry accordingly
