Precision Helper is a tool for creating and managing help projects. It focuses on the organization of existing html files, xml files, scripts, images and other resources so that the help author has the best overview of the project.

The program works natively with the Microsoft HTML Help projects format (HHP) and can publish to the CHM, WebHelp, ePUB (e-book), PDF, and the single html document formats.

Precision Helper is designed for advanced developers and authors, but provides a user-friendly environment accessible to beginners.

*NOTE: both direct and website link are to current version "v2.0.1.7",
* Still needs 2001 "Auto subtopics table of contents" add-on manually added

Be forewarned: PrecisionHelper can't create help files without "Microsoft Html Help Workshop" but instructions for its download and portable install are nowhere to be found.

HelpNDoc is a WYSIWYG tool for creating HTML help files (CHM format) and help web sites. It comes with a built-in word processor for authoring pages within the project.

Note: Latest version is adware and is not portable. I have made an older version (V1.16) available for download in case some of you still find it useful.

Category:
Runs on:Win95 / Win98 / WinME / WinNT / Win2K / WinXP / Vista
Writes settings to: Writes dockable toolbar config to the registry, but I don't consider this to be critical to the functionality to the app, so I am accepting it as portable. But for those of you who really love to move the toolbars around in a certain way, this app is not portable for you.
Dependencies: Microsoft HTML Help Workshop
Stealth: ? No
Unicode support: No
License: Free for personal use
How to extract:
  1. Download the installer and extract to a temporary folder (if you have difficulty, try the Lupo version of Universal Extractor)
  2. Move the contents of {app} to a folder of your choice
  3. Launch helpndoc.exe

Latest version is 3.2.0.65. Version is outdated and the download link redirects to an uninstaller, no doubt this entry has been collection dust. A lot has changed since v1.13 for example it sports a new interface akin to Word 2010, supports CHM, HTML, PDF, and WORD output., I admit the insert-ads have become a little too obnoxious for me as it's now at the top, sometimes middle and bottom of the pages vs. V1.13 which only inserts a small text at the very bottom. But PDF export seem pretty cool. The new interface is "pretty" but daunting for those who are stuck using office 2003. I don't have enough "points" to update this entry myself nor the time fully judge if this new version is portable enough or not. But with my 5 minutes of time I ran the installer in sandboxie, copied files from a previous install of "Microsoft HTML Help Workshop" and it spit out a nice .chm and pdf file without hitch.

abc: I posted something about this in forums:
http://www.portablefreeware.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=42679#p42679 ... essentially I felt like the program had so many adware nags that it really doesn't belong in the freeware category anymore. For the time being, I've added a disclaimer about the version to the main entry.
