Hi Kea, I just took a look at Koma-Mail v3.83 and I can't find ANY obvious way to switch the ONLINE mode on or off. I downloaded the user manual, (web pages), and can find 2 references to it but no means of doing it. I also sent an email 'Koma-Code' but haven't had a reply as yet.

Still, it seems to be working anyway.

Technomancer on 2015-01-26 20:44

OK. I'm still using KomaMail and I still like it. I've set the 'Check Mail' time to 5 Minutes but it does't seem to automatically check at all.
If anyone CAN contact the author I think Komamail is well worth continuing to develop it and with the feedback from this forum it could be excellent.

Technomancer on 2015-01-26 20:55

OOPS!
I forgot. It's a shame that KomaMail isn't Open Source then someone could 'debug' and develop it. The athors web page doesn't seem to have been updated since 2004

Popcorn v1.99 update 3

lwc on 28 Mar 2021
  • 325KB (uncompressed)
  • Released on 21 Aug 2012
  • Suggested by myzdoxae

Popcorn was (its homepage is only available via Internet Archive) a text-only email client with SMTP/POP3 support. It handles attachments, but does not render HTML emails or display inline images, which means it is immune to most HTML viruses/scripts/trojans. It supports multiple email accounts, SSL and APOP. It is useful for cleaning up POP accounts, removing spam, unwanted mail, large attachments etc.

Note: Developer has ended work on the project - linking to Archive.org entry (thanks Baas).

What's new? 1.99 update 3 - 21-August-2012

Bug-fixes:
  • Fixed an issue introduced in release 1.99 that caused mail sending to fail if the SMTP server supported the CRAM-MD5 authentication method.

1.99 update 2 - 06-July-2012

New features:
  • Added support for TLS encrypted SMTP communication via the STARTTLS command making Popcorn compatible with mail servers that require it like Hotmail. TLS can be turned on in the the "Tools" -> "Email Accounts" dialog "Identity & Servers" tab by checking "Use SLL / TLS". When enabled, TLS encryption will be used if the server supports it for all ports except 465 which uses SSL.

1.99 update 1 - 29-June-2012

New features:
  • Added support for attachment forwarding if the selected mail has any downloaded attachments. You will now be asked if you want to forward them, and if you choose yes, they will appear in the mail editor "File Attachment" dialog as usual.
  • Added an "Open File Location" item to the the mail editor "File Attachment" dialog context pop-up menu that will open an explorer window with the selected file attachment location + highlighting the file.
  • Added support for column sorting in the mail editor "File Attachments" dialog (by path or size).

Bug-fixes:
  • The toolbar combo box edit control for setting the "Number of latest mail to download" did not respond to Delete and Backspace keyboard events because they got eaten by the main window accelerators. They are now intercepted before the accelerators kick in, so the keys should now work as expected (i.e. text can be deleted). Also updated the same control to only accept numerical input.
  • Fixed a very obscure and probably 10+ year old bug that in very rare cases would reset changes done to account settings outside of the "Tools" -> "Email Accounts" dialog if it is opened and Cancel or Close (Esc) is selected.

Couldn't get this to work with Hotmail (Sept 2016)

Hotmail needs SSL for upload and download. The program doesn't come will the SSL libraries but you can download and install them on the local computer from OpenSSL.

Got upload working with OpenSSL (32bit light ver) even though I'm on 64 Win7. POP3 wouldn't connect....using port 995 pop3.live.com. Popcorn listed SSL support as available from the about menu too. Could be that OpenSSL was complaining about missing C++ libraries at install (you can download that too) but that kind of misses the point for me. If you've got to install a load of software on the local computer to get the mail client to work then it's not really portable.

Anyone get this working with Hotmail?

computernerd on 2017-01-08 15:25

@killingtime:

Because Popcorn is a 32bit application, you need the 32bit DLLs.
OpenSSL doesn't provide binary files but has some respective links. There's a portable version as well that is simply to be unzipped.

i too get the connection error

Using this program for months now. Great discrete, simple tool. As mentioned, no advanced features like file transfer (plenty of free sites for that), custom smileys (which I have turned off anyway), or 3way-chat (any additional users' messages show up as if they were from the first). Nevertheless, I find this unobtrusive, fast loading and deadfast application perfect for my needs, and highly recommend it.

yep this is the best tool for me. It's better at least than

Don't like mess with programming much then use HotKeyz as it's much easier than AutoHotKey but if you want more powerful ways of handling not only shortcuts, but also the Windows themselves and a bunch of other things, use AutoHotkey.

HotKeyz: Very Easy and Simple.
AutoHotKey: Steeper curve but more powerful and flexible.

I tried downloading this and it claims that to be installed as administrator.

It is a shame that HotKeyz has been discontinued without being made open-source. I still like it very much and still use it every day- it is very easy to configure. HotKeyz still works fine on Windows 8.

weird thing! but i like it and it works without problems.
you have to get used to it to realize that it works properly: e.g. right-clicking means "closing".
some of the functions are quite useful the others can be disabled ;-)

Fox Cole on 2008-03-04 09:00

Okay, I can't figure out how to access the .exe launcher function (is that the Z'Menu in the setup dialog? what is Zero-Zero-Menu?) nor the browser search bar or Google search bar. I discovered I could type into the system monitor box, but it doesn't launch a search... unless this app only supports Internet Explorer. The active browser is Firefox.

The Z'Panel (I assume that's what appears in the top left corner of the display) is very difficult to activate, especially when I'm using dual monitors and the mouse pointer pops too easily over to the second monitor, which is on the left in my setup.

I'm not sure what Swazz Z'Star is, either. It appears to do nothing when I select it.

Also, the command line won't stay in the directory I change to. I'm running SWAZZ portably on WinXP SP2. My portable drive is F: today. If I tell it to cd back to the C drive, it does that but pops right back into the F drive... so I'm at the F command prompt instead of C, no matter what I do.

Fox Cole on 2008-03-06 06:33

It helps to read the Readme file packed with the application.

So that takes care of everything above except the difficulty of activating the menu (not Z'Panel) on a dual monitor, and the command line directory problem.
